The show was engaging and held my interest. Even though I am allergic to fish and nuts I couldn’t help but pay attention — more was given than just a recipe.

Great video! Makes Catfish tacos look so easy to make that even I could do it! Thank you.
May 7th, 2007 at 3:18 pm
Thank you for posting these videos online! The ingredient list includes specific nutritional information that makes it easy to adjust for a low fat version of this meal. I like the in store interviews that tell me a little about the product - Catfish and what farm raised really means. I look forward to receiving these weekly - Thank you again!

GREAT SHOW!!! So much in under 10 minutes. Keep up the good work. Will not miss a show.
May 7th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
Thanks! This was great — a quick and efficient way to see a demonstration. I’d like the camera to be more often on the hands and ingredients.
May 7th, 2007 at 3:26 pm
Great Job Scott and crew!!! That was fun to watch and really feel like it was made for the average Joe, trying to learn a new recipe. I’ll watch them all, I’m very excited for the next episode.
May 7th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Loved it! We have several restaurants up here that serve catfish tacos….but with more of a “southwest” flair. I love Thai food so I am looking forward to trying this recipe. Thanks!

This was a great show. It made my mouth water for fish! Can’t wait for the next one. Will this be a videocast on itunes soon? I would love to download these on my ipod to watch again later.

This is a fab idea, great store, now with the cooking class to show us new ingredients and how to cook with then…thanks!
May 7th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
I want more! Love it…
May 7th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
Wonderful! I really enjoyed this and look forward to more! Fish tacos are a favorite in our house. Great demonstration and it held my attention. Length was perfect.
May 7th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
good.
May 7th, 2007 at 4:23 pm
OK…I like the cook, however…beginning should have been after that first minute and a half; way too much intro. Camera missed the food too many times; I tired of just seeing the logo apron. Food shredding time could have been condensed. I don’t eat flour tortillas, and corn tortillas do not heat up well without either oil or moisture - tortilla types and prep should be discussed. Avocado handling should have been covered. Having the fish go up in flames was not a good result, as it is the main feature of the recipe (with the sauce). And I don’t see where the printed recipe is. Video size is good.
To sum up: more skilled editing showing the food close up; more thoughtful information; a print recipe quickly linked.
May 7th, 2007 at 4:42 pm
This is fantastic! Just what I’ve been waiting for. It’s so different when you can “watch” a recipe as opposed to reading it. I love it - don’t care about the mistakes - just glad you’re doing this! Keep up the good work. The presenter was entertaining too.
May 7th, 2007 at 5:17 pm
This was good with some interesting tips but I agree with the other comment: focus the camera more on the food and less on the apron! Thanks for doing these; I will look forward to the next one.
May 7th, 2007 at 5:19 pm
I do not eat catfish for the same ‘bottom-feeder’ reason, I still do not think I will…even if it is farm raised. I think I will try the recipe with other protein alternatives. Recipe sounded yummy. Thanks for the demonstration video, I liked it.
May 7th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
What a great idea! The filming and editing is so well done. I haven’t seen such skillful editing in some time! The content was wonderful and I can’t wait to come to Whole Foods to buy some catfish! I am loving this recipe and this new video/recipe! I will be checking back next week.

I am excited to have another source for easy, delicious meals. I second the comment on video run time, just long enough. I plan on making this a go to source. Thanks!
May 7th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
I would suggest just a very brief opening, the description of the secret ingredient is good, and then a short summary of what ingredients and maybe the tools that will be used with the secret ingredient. I wouldn’t try to fill up a specific amount of time, just show what’s necessary with a little bit of personality to tie it all together. Overall, it was fun to watch. I look forward to the next one.
May 7th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Great idea! It sometimes help to watch rather than just read a recipe. I’m looking forward to more.
One suggestion though….. When Scott is interviewing the shoppers, he needs to remember to speak into the mic also.
May 7th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
I don’t like fish- and this actually looked amazing! I am really impressed with the information given, in such a short amount of time.
May 7th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Agree with someone above who said that they didn’t think the flaming up of the grill added to the appeal of the dish. Otherwise I like the idea of the secret ingredient. I imagine the presentation will improve with a little time…but the sooty looking fish wasn’t appealing. Would like the recipe.
May 7th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
This was really good! I will be looking forward to more. I do agree with some of the comments that were made about the video, and how it was presented. Everyones comments will only make this project stronger, and successful in the long run. Keep up the creativity Whole Foods!

Too cool. Another reminder why Whole Foods is my favorite retailer not just my favorite place for great food. Keep ‘em coming.

Interesting. looked delicious, and he didn’t say “YUM-O!”
If he’s going to be casual about the ingredients in the recipe, I’d suggest he give alternatives…
May 8th, 2007 at 2:22 am
Even though I do not eat meat, this was an interesting video.
I like the demonstration.
Keep up the good work!
May 8th, 2007 at 6:26 am
Intro could be shorter or maybe more shots of the store or products. Other than that, I found the show informative and helpful and apealing.
Keep them coming.

An excellent addition to the WF universe. Compares favorably — actually more appealing — than what’s available online on America’s Test Kitchen and NYT (Mark Bitman’s vidios). We love your catfish. Have only pan-fried them breaded in panko ’til now. Would be helpful to know alternative ingredient to peanut butter & coconut milk combo as some may not a fan of those 2. Also, kudos to many of the prior comments (e.g., edit the ‘flame-up’). Keep up your good works.

WHOA! 660 calories is A LOT for one meal. Are we not going for healthy recipes on this site??
May 8th, 2007 at 8:48 am
Loved the video! Can’t wait to try the recipe. I like that you had caption stating the ingredients and amounts.
May 8th, 2007 at 9:58 am
Naturally, I thoroughly enjoyed the tip regarding “catfish pumped full of water”. I certainly don’t need that on MY grocery bill. Turn up that music!
May 8th, 2007 at 10:15 am
I truly enjoyed the new videopod! Very entertaining and informative. I am a HUGE fan of WF but must travel a bit to do any shopping ;( I am sure that the show will only get better with time but maybe a suggestion… an audience cooking class…hmmm…that could be fun…I’d travel…;) Keep up the great work and keep it fun!!!
May 8th, 2007 at 10:18 am
Wonderful video - makes me want to try these out. I think the camera should spend LESS time on the guy’s face and MORE time on the prep area (counter, stove, bowls, etc.) Or pull out so that we see the entire thing. Up tight and close on his chest and face doesn’t show us anything of interest…..
May 8th, 2007 at 10:22 am
Very, very cool.
And beautifully done.
Sugestion: get Trish Murphy (Austin singer/songwriter and foodie extraordinaire)
to share duties with Scott and/or cook up a few episodes of her own.
May 8th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
Great video! Even though I don’t like catfish, I might try this interesting recipe with a different “secret ingredient”. I like the use of captions and the customer interviews were fun to watch.
May 8th, 2007 at 12:28 pm
I love Whole Foods. That’s why I shop there. That’s why I go to the website. That’s how I found Secret Ingredient and was very excited about its prospects. His apron says “Whole Foods”, the olive oil, the products are packaged Whole Foods. I have eyes, I can see it. So you don’t really need to inject those verbal plugs about Whole Foods, it’s a big time waster and turn-off. Whole Foods catfish, Whole Foods avocado, Whole Foods organic carrots, Whole Foods this and that. It’s nauseating. Keep it honest, and we’ll keep being loyal. Thank you.

Dear Whole Foods:
Wow! What a great idea to put this information on a videoblog for quick reference!! My husband and I love to cook for our children at home with fresh ingredients, because we care so much what they eat. This is tough to do, especially with all of our schedules. I make fish tacos very often, but have never tried catfish. This recipe looks delicious, and a sure hit with the children. Can’t wait to try it. Thanks for your continuous efforts to make eating healthy worth it! Olga

Scott and Company …
Delighted to see this resource added to the Whole Foods repetoire … yes, there is some room for improvement … but your first effort in the 10 minutes was an excellent beginning. You empower the home cook. Continued best wishes!

Thanks so much for this entertaining and informative video. In the past, I too have shyed away from catfish because of the “bottom feeder” aspect, but now that I realize the difference, I’m ready to try this delicious recipe. It was also great to see another use for Daikon radish. It was well done and fun to watch.

The medium is awsome but content??? boring, too slow….get some energy folks!Drink some wine, look bright, and where’s your sense of humor? This is supposed to be entertainig.Right?
Or maybe not.
May 9th, 2007 at 8:55 am
I liked it–especially the background info on catfish. I’ve not eaten it in years, but I will try it again soon, because of what I learned. Hope future videoblogs will follow suit!
May 9th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Well Done! Would love to see a shopping list / recipe link to ensure I have the correct ingredients / quantity / serving size.

Looks great. I am looking forward to upcoming episodes.

I enjoyed the segment very much. Especially interesting was the explanation about the catfish farms. I have avoided purchasing catfish because I thought they lived in unsanitary conditions when farmed–and since in the wild they are bottom feeders, they didn’t seem very appealing. The segment was terrific. I look forward to the next one!

Great to see your cooking show!
I was a chef at the Esalen Institute for over a year.
I’m now with SustainLane, a website dedicated to green product reviews. Basically, anyone can get on the site and share their favorite (or not so favorite) green product reviews.
We have a ton of green products found at Whole Foods, recommended by our community, and would love to hear from you about what your favorite “Secret” ingredients are.
Best,
Abendigo

Just tried this recipe and it was delicious!
May 14th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Gina, so glad you liked it. It is a true favorite around here because it is so easy, inexpensive and just a little adventurous for a weeknight, 30-minute, family friendly, throw-together dinner.

Love the concept and follow through! As a nutritionist/holistic health practitiner specializing in chidlrens’ and womens’ health issue as well as anti-aging, I am always looking for ways to EDUCATE clients! Understanding that our bodies are designed to run on REAL FOOD is the key. Your short, simple snippets are easy to understand and to duplicate at home! My philosophies are 2 fold, “Rooted in health..turn over a new leaf of youth” AND “Out with the new and in with the old”…meaning eat the way our grandparents ate just 100 years ago and avoid the processed “foods” of today:-) Great job and I will send more to the site!

I just watched the first two “Secret Ingredient” shows and loved them! I am a visual learner so it was great to have you show how to cut an avocado and mix the thai dressing etc. The recipes seem so easy and I can’t wait to try them!

Kimberly and Kathy, thank you for the feedback! Please keep watching….another one coming on Monday!

I really enjoyed the quality of the production. I could see the texture of the food.
May 18th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
These first few webcasts are understandably raw for a first venture … it’s part of their charm … and I look forward to watching “Secret Ingredient” mature with each episode. What a treat to watch them from the outset. Thank you for counting me in!
May 20th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
These are GREAT!
I’m just starting to watch them and I can’t wait to try this recipe substituting tofu or portobellos for the catfish. (Note to self- don’t watch these before lunch, you will just be disappointed with other food.)
May 31st, 2007 at 11:24 am
I thought the video was fantastic. I have recently changed the way I eat to a more natural and nutritional way and am excited about finding new ways to cook fish. I will definately try the catfish taco recipe, keep up the great work.
