This is just garbage, halfway over before it gets to what the topic is supposed to be, then nothing but a commercial for things you sell. What the heck is a serum? If this was truly useful, these things would have to be explained, and they are not. My first look at your blog, and my last.

Whole Foods is the best!!! The stores exzude honesty and intergrity. I don’t feel like I am about to be scammed by strategic placemengt marketing or paying for elaborate expensive packaging. I feel I can trust the company totreat me fairly and with true concern for me, thier sources and the enviroment. I’m sure that thier profit mark up is not as high as the super-chains, because they give alot back to thier suppliers, employees and causes they whole heartly enorse an support such as the great cause of Farm Aid. I’ve been to a few Farm Aid concerts an Whole Foods is front and center supporting the event and extremely generous to the attendees with thier free food offerings for hours on end. My chairatable Contribution is primarily my church and now I view my shopping at whole foods as a chairatable contribution because of the causes they support such as opening thier parking areas to local farmers so the farmers can sell thier goods directly to the public and allow the farmers to pocket thier total profits directly into thier own coffers without any concern for Whole Foods own products and profits in thier own stores. This is just one way Whole Foods gives back to the community. There are dozens and dozens of other generosities that Whole Foods does that make me want to support Whole Foods an you should too.

Jim thanks so much for your support. We are all very passionate about the company that we work for and committed to our mission. One of the coolest things about it is that our custoemrs (like you) are too, and together we are making a difference. Your post was so great to read, I am still smiling.

there were a few excellent makeup tips here for mature skin… tinted moisturizer is ideal for mature skin, matt eye powders and blushers are better than sparkles, and applying your brow powder from the middle of the brow to the outer part of the brow. applying powder (or pencil) closer to the nose is not great if you still have eyebrows.
one tip i’d like to add… avoid applying powders over wrinkles. especially around or under eyes or over a furrowed brow. you’ll just accentuate your wrinkles. people think they have to set their makeup or it will slide. mature skin can be very dry, so this is not an issue. i don’t use powder at all.

Bella, thanks for your feedback about the video and sorry you did not find it informative. We love getting feedback and have made changes over the years on this series based on the feedback that we have received from listeners/viewers. We have gotten feedback in the past that people want to know about what SPECIFIC products to use wich is why we asked our expert to mention her favorites.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
I find this video loaded with information, right out of the gate! I truly appreciate the coverage on natural oils and antioxidents.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:02 am
Big fan of the Dr.Hauschka product lines. The quality really stands out, and leaves your skin feeling clear and clean.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Jim adds a nice perspective here. We can and do vote with our dollars. I appreciate the quality of the products WF offers and even more they way they offer support and distribution for small organic companies. Supporting these companies not only promotes good business practice, it improves national independence (not to get to political here

I’m 65. It is really nice to see attention given to makeup/skin care for older women. I agree that UV protection is a very smart aspect of skin health, which should be started at a young age.
October 10th, 2008 at 7:52 am
I noticed Dr.Weil in a previous podcast, which is great! I’m surprised you didn’t mention his “Origins” product line, which is a great line for mature skin.
October 10th, 2008 at 8:45 am
I agree that is is good to see attention given to mature skin. Also I agree with your Erin, that mature skin and powder can be a tricky combination. Go light with the powder!
October 10th, 2008 at 9:11 am
I really enjoy these videos. I see so many beauty products and often have wondered how to use products together. The demonstrations of how to apply make up really help me.
October 10th, 2008 at 9:28 am
My local WF’s store has a terrific body care department, and I feel so lucky to be able to get great food and skin care all in one stop. Supporting organic products, increases the market place and the demand for high quality domestic businesses.
October 10th, 2008 at 10:44 am
I use the same CoQ10 product shown in this video and it is fantastic!!! I recommend this to anyone.
October 10th, 2008 at 11:27 am
I like seeing these products in use. I also applaud Whole Foods premium body care standards!
October 10th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Mara is a great host for these types of videos. She should have her own series on the WFM site!
October 12th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
I really enjoyed this video and thed attention given to older skin. There is also a lovely booklet I found which future supports “healthy aging” Good job.
October 13th, 2008 at 6:26 am
I find Bella’s comments funny. They are her honest opinion but for me vital info starts right from the top of the segment. Thanks for the coverage of the importance of natural oils which aid in skin health.
October 13th, 2008 at 6:33 am
I appreciate Erin’s comment concerning not applying powder over wringles with mature skin. My mother is a practitioner of this method
Throughout the day the power becomes more and more flaky and actually draws more attention to her wringles. Tinted moisturizer is a much more affective tool.
October 13th, 2008 at 6:44 am
Thanks for giving attention to mature skin. I feel like all to often the ads we see and the products companies develop just focus on teens and 20 somethings. I’m 58 and still enjoy dressing up and looking good.
October 13th, 2008 at 8:43 am
CoQ10 eye cream has been a very helpful part of my skin care regime. I’m not sure if it is just me, but it seems like it has been helping remove wrinkles around the outside of my eyes.
October 13th, 2008 at 9:19 am
My grandmother was the queen of dry dry dry base powder dressed over wrinkles
Skincare and makeup products have evolved so much from those days. WF’s carries some terrific products which not only work well in terms of looks, but also nourish the skin!
October 13th, 2008 at 10:00 am
Great video! Very complete.
October 13th, 2008 at 10:15 am
I’m with Erin- CoQ10 is a fantastic product! I have used it for a year and really see a change in the tone of the skin around my eyes.
October 14th, 2008 at 8:32 am
Just came across this series through a friend’s blog. Great to see Whole Foods deep into the social media world.
October 14th, 2008 at 9:55 am
I like your other readers applaud you addressing mature skin. This really isn’t touched upon in any other web coverage I have come across!
October 15th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
CoQ10 has had a terrific impact on my “crows feet”. I actually use the Aubrey Organics CoQ10 mentioned in this video, and find it cost effective and not as oily as others I have tried.
October 15th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Whole Foods, thank you for given some attention to skin care for older people. Your store and philosophy are inspiring and offer excellence in health and body care for all ages and that means the world to me!
October 16th, 2008 at 9:26 am
I personally wouldn’t take the time to apply as many steps as are shown in this video. I do think the advice of using tinted moisturizer is great guidance for “mature” skin.
October 16th, 2008 at 9:33 am
Hi Val, I agree that there are a lot of steps in the makeover process but we wanted to show people the full effect and let them utilize the steps that best fit their lifestyle and needs. For me I really like the tinted moisturizer too and tend to use that everyday but when I go out I use more of the entire face approach.
October 16th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Thanks for the thoughtful response Mara! I agree when/if I get a night out, I step it up a bit as well
October 16th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Tinted moisturizer is my secret to even looking skin, throughout the seasons.
October 16th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Wow things have come a long way from the days my mom used Nivea! Is coconut butter beneficial as a skin conditioner?
October 16th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
I appreciate the advice for using tinted moisturizer as a base for mature skin! It helps even out the look of my face and I feel like a good moisturizer is helping to protect my skin at the same time.
October 17th, 2008 at 9:12 am
I read that Whole Foods created a body care standard which is designed to help ensure that products meet an organic quality standard! I really enjoy being able to shop for both organic foods and supplements under one roof!
October 17th, 2008 at 10:02 am
@Sarah Of course—coconut butter (as it usually appears on personal care labels) is a wonderful skin conditioner. You can find coconut oil and coconut butter as an ingredient in personal care products like Alaffia or Pangea body lotions. Or look for stand-alone coconut oil or coconut butter in Whole Body or in Grocery.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
CoQ10 is a favorite of mine as well. I udnerstand the body naturally produces this, but with age and time we produce less and a topical supplement really helps offset this change!
October 19th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Great video!
October 19th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
I like seeing so many organic/natural skincare options these days! I will certainly share this video with my mother.
October 20th, 2008 at 7:06 am
Good tips here for mature skin, treatments and daily makeup. I think your stores carry a wonderful line of natural hair coloration products as well!
October 20th, 2008 at 7:48 am
Another great video addressing natural skin care options, keep up the great work!
October 20th, 2008 at 8:02 am
I agree with one of your other comments. We do vote with our dollars, or decisions for which products and services we choose to support. I am a great fan of WF for their dedication to small local companies and organic products, as well as the creation of the whole body standard.
October 20th, 2008 at 9:33 am
Glad to see you giving a video tutorial for older skin. At the checkout isles we always see young 20 somethings gracing the covers of magazines.
October 20th, 2008 at 9:46 am
All of these are very good suggestions for mature skin! CoQ10 is a very practical product to help reinvigorate the skin around the eyes.
October 20th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
I agree with the other people here. It is very very comforting to see attention given to mature skin.
October 20th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
I really appreciate this video. I have often wondered the process for using the different products I see on shelves. Typically I just default to eye liner, so I’m excited to explore the use of tinted base!
October 21st, 2008 at 8:30 am
Whole Foods carries some terrific natural skin care products at most of their stores. I have started getting some products I had not tried before. A very cost affective, but not quite as good as some of the other lines, is the 365 brand lotion, shampoo, and conditioner.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:10 am
I really enjoy this series. Your stores are great champions of organic products, lifestyles, and companies. It helps to see some of the products outside of foods explained and applied. I really appreciate your efforts.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:02 am
I love the comments about tinted moisturizer vs. powder for mature skin
It is so true that powder and wrinkles are not the best of friends.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:47 am
CoQ10 is great topically but also very good for your heart and organs when taken as a supplement.
October 24th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
There are a large number of believed benefits for taking CoQ10 internally, see the link to the Mayo Clinics report below. I just love it topically for my eyes and cheeks, it really feels like it adds new life.

This video was awesome!!! I’m 42 and have been scouring all kinds of natural makeup web sites, this one is the best. This video has been so helpful in showing WHAT products Whole Foods has and HOW to use them! All I have to say is more, more, more please! Please make more videos like this one! It was very, very helpful to me.

Gina, I think that “dry dry dry base powder dressed over wrinkles” method is called “skinscare”, LOL!
January 19th, 2009 at 2:50 pm

Excellent video!
Properly shaped brows really frame the face and bring more focus upward to the eyes. I love the colored brow gels from Glo Minerals because it is an easy way to define the brow and cover gray hairs.
I like to prep the skin before makeup application with Mineral Fusion’s face primer. It fills in lines and imperfections to help you achieve smooth, more even coverage. Their hydration mist is also essential because it adds moisture to the skin and helps give that dewy glow. You can use it before applying makeup if you have very dry skin because it will help you blend makeup easier. You can also it use it after applying makeup to set it and soften lines. I sometimes use it just as a freshener throughout the day!

Loved this video, Mara & Marcelle!
I learned about new products & loved seeing how to apply them.
I do have a question. Where in this process do you apply sunscreen? Or is it included in one of the moisturizers?
More – more – more of these videos!!
Thanks! — S

Plain Jane Skin Care products are sold in the Pittsburgh Whole Foods store. While they have a variety of soaps and skin care products, there is one that is particulary wonderful on mature skin. It is the avocado butter w/carrot seed oil (and francincense…mmm!). It also serves sun damaged skin well and is completely natural with only four ingredients. (Google Plain Jane Skin Care for website.) It is light and absorbs quickly, leaving your skin soft and-hopefully-a few fine lines and wrinkles lighter!

I’m glad to be finding information about make-up and application on your website. I have really sensitive skin and eczema around my eyes. I have also become very aware of how many toxic/carcinogenic ingredients so many cosmetics contain. Feel somewhat overwhelmed with it all, however. I would love to find out more about what saf products I ought to use, being 45 and highly sensitive. Some of the research I have done indicates that the cosmetics industry in Europe is much more highly regulated than here so I have been considering only buying European products. However, I would love to buy all my cosmetics from you if I could unravel the web of information on the subject and then take into consideration how sensitive my skin is! Any advice? Thanks much.
