May I just say… Hot Plants work so well I can’t take them!
Happy Valentine’s Day.
Love, Zoe (Chris’ wife)

Of course all vegetables are good for libido! By eating fresh fruit and vegetables, we are improving our healthy, keeping our blood clean and in some cases reducing cholesterol, improving heart health generally and thereby improving our libido just by building stronger healthier foundations.
February 6th, 2009 at 2:06 am
I like the idea of “Hot Plants” to go with my hot pants
Really tough, this info is interesting but I am unfamiliar with two of the herbs mentioned here, could you please spell out the names of all three.
February 7th, 2009 at 9:04 am
@Linsday The three plants mentioned are Maca (Peru), Rhodiola rosea (Siberia) and Ashwagandha (India).
February 7th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Well this certainly is a great topic for V-day!. I am excited to see if this heats things up for me and my husband.
February 7th, 2009 at 10:52 am
I picked up on the booklets in your store, and it has a great list of Hot Herbs. I picked up a few and look forward to seeing the effects when they kick in.
February 7th, 2009 at 10:59 am
I certainly like the idea of herbs for enhancement vs. a pharma- approach. This may sound funny, but a hot shower with Dr. Brauners soap gets things going at our house
February 7th, 2009 at 11:03 am
It is interesting that your guest talks about herbs opening of the blood vessels, I wonder if combining these “Hot Herbs” with niacin would further enhance their affects.
February 7th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Great suggestion for Valentines Day, not how doe I get me wife to start them
February 7th, 2009 at 11:12 am
I agree with James, an overall healthy approach to living is a great way to keep the fires going. When I am eating well and exercising, basically when I feel good about myself, I am must interested in being intimate.
February 7th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Good suggestions, but I think it is important to mention that happiness and health are the key influencers in an open love life. I know we all get so use to the idea that a pill will make things happen and do all the work. Get real, exercise, love and talk with your partner, and enjoy the beauty of sex.
February 7th, 2009 at 11:26 am
This is fun. I have purchased a random bottle of herbs in NYC Chinatown, which as far as I could tell, was aimed at increasing libido. I did feel very tingly but not sure if it directly helped with libido. I look forward to trying some of the suggestions here, I assume your stores carry the products.
February 7th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Communication is the key for me. If I feel close to my partner then I feel intimate, if I don’t feel close, or I have low self esteem… forget it.
February 7th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Glad to hear you covering this subject, here are some great herbs which serve as aphrodisiacs ginseng horny goat weed damiana tribulus.
February 7th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
This is a great subject!!! I didn’t expect to find this topic covered by Whole Foods, good for you embracing this topic.
February 7th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
A Hot bath and some “Hot Herbs” sounds like a refreshing combo for some Valentine Day fun. I’m going to try this out and I’m holding you to your word, that these will help
February 7th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Another cool podcast Whole Foods! This topic is more fun then usual, I mean I love learning about how to cook Sea Bass and all, but I enjoy how this speaks how to liven up life, after a great meal
I hope these really may work, hey its worth a shot.
February 8th, 2009 at 7:06 am
Solid info here, I would like to see a list of these herbs, perhaps a printable form… wow do I sound desperate
February 8th, 2009 at 7:09 am
@Sue The information associated with this podcast series is available in print form in your local store. Check the Whole Body and Guest Services sections for flyers and brochures!
February 8th, 2009 at 7:10 am
“Hot Herbs” great term. Nice podcast, I had never consider an herbal approach to aphrodisiacs!
February 8th, 2009 at 7:10 am
James is onto something here. Overall health is the key to feeling good about yourself and being able to share intimacy with others. I go back and forth between eating well, and not so well. When my diet is good, my energy is up, my spirits are up, and well… my love life is UP!
February 8th, 2009 at 7:12 am
Your making me blush
I have always been curious if Passion Fruit had an medicinal affects, or if it was just the name? I am hoping your store staff can help me find some of the herbs you mention here. Apparently it is time to get my head out of the produce isle and over to the supplement section.
February 8th, 2009 at 7:30 am
I agree, I have used herbs to enhance my drive and indeed they work wonders for me. Here is another great article which further supports the work here:

February 8th, 2009 at 7:42 am
These are interesting ideas. I will check out a few of these products, and I really hope they might help me. It has always been an ongoing issue for my husband and I. Are there any herbs which reduce male sex drive?
February 8th, 2009 at 7:44 am
I like these suggestions, another great natural aphrodisiacs is kelp. Kelp is rich in many vitamins and minerals, among them iodine, necessary for the proper function of the thyroid gland. Lack of iodine can result in excessive physical fatigue and a lowered sex drive.
February 8th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
I don’t think the answer for anything comes in a little pill. Communication, personal pride and health, and self esteem are the key to a flourishing love life. Whole Foods does offer terrific foods to keep the body running at its best, perhaps you should stay focused on these.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:46 am
Well this is a new spin for Valentines Day. I personally believe in the power of chocolate, but I don’t know if there is any science behind this love affair. Also I’ve heard about oysters, and wine, not in together.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:52 am
Well Zoe’s comments are intriguing! I guess Chris is a lucky man. I’ll check into this myself.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:54 am
This was allot of fun, I see this says part 1, looking forward to part 2, 3?
February 9th, 2009 at 7:56 am
I am someone who has tried some of these “Hot Herbs” and found great success. I don’t know if a placebo would have had the same affect, or rather if the herbs just acted as a placebo, but either way, the end result was great for both of us.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:58 am
I wonder what my sweetie will think when I ask for a bottle of herbs for Valentine, rather then chocolate. I really hope this may offer a boost in my sex drive.
February 9th, 2009 at 8:05 am
Hot Herbs…really?
February 9th, 2009 at 8:09 am
Hi Winnie-
“Winnie Hsia: @Linsday The three plants mentioned are Maca (Peru), Rhodiola rosea (Siberia) and Ashwagandha (India).”
Are these available at most of your stores?
February 9th, 2009 at 10:45 am
@Chad Yes, all these herbs are available in both capsule and liquid form in the Whole Body department. Check with your local store for their availability and selection.
February 9th, 2009 at 10:52 am
ALL RIGHT!!!! Glad to see my favorite organic store coming through with natural options for my love life. I eat well, I love my partner, but I have a drop in libido happening with age. I applaud you embracing this topic, I am glad I don’t have to go the “traditional” medical route.
February 9th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
Great job, covering a “taboo” subject. It really is a fact of life right, love is a beautiful thing.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
It is really nice to hear there are natural approaches I can take to enhance my sex drive. I love your store for the great foods, and the knowledge your staff shares when I shop. I am really looking forward to my next visit, when I will head right to the “Hot Herbs” department
Good job!

An exciting topic indeed! We really appreciate the help on this front, I’ll write again after I try the herbs your guest mentioned.
February 10th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
A friend just forwarded me a link to this podcast, I am really impressed. I always assumed I was on hold waiting for the female version of Viagra, but never like the prospects of taking a pill to ramp up my love life.
February 11th, 2009 at 6:52 am
Best one yet!
February 11th, 2009 at 7:18 am
I do like the concept, and of course the name of “Hot Herbs” but for my body, regime, I’ll stick with vitamins.

“Hot Herbs” is such a great title. I think your guest has the makings of a great short book.
February 12th, 2009 at 8:12 am
I agree with other here, that keeping your overall health up is the greatest key to feeling good about yourself and then being able to share your self confidence. I do believe that support for your system is always helpful, particularly considering how stress can take its toll.
February 12th, 2009 at 8:16 am
I’m glad to hear your stores have a support booklet, I think this will make it much easier for me to remember all of the names of the “Hot Herbs”. I hope my store carries these products, it is one of the smallest Whole Foods I’ve been to
February 12th, 2009 at 9:21 am
Great topic!
February 12th, 2009 at 9:21 am
So glad I came across this podcast! A topic not always talked about, and the lack of discussion is a tragedy. Those of us left feeling the need to address this issue are only faced with no natural solutions or ideas. This really cheers me up, and I look forward to investigating the suggestion here, personal!
February 12th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Chris does in fact have a book out called “Hot Plants”. If you liked the podcast, you can find more information here: http://www.medicinehunter.com/books_by_chris_kilham.htm
February 12th, 2009 at 10:24 am
This is a FUN topic. Typically you see libido enhancement geared toward men, which if you think about it is silly, in that most men seem to have a much higher sex drive. I it good to hear women and man both can benefit from these natural solutions!
February 12th, 2009 at 10:48 am
As a green mom, this is great advice! Libido definitely changes after having kids. I agree with Gabby, usually this issue is addressed with men. Great to hear some advice across the board.
February 12th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Great job, just in time for V-DAY!!!!!
February 12th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
I just checked out the “Medicine Hunter” link, Chris is really prolific. Thanks for sharing the link.

I’ve never heard of “Hot Herbs” before. Thanks for turning me onto yet another new way of thinking about health!
February 17th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Hi everybody, it’s great to see so many comments on this. Of course, no amount of herbs can substitute for a wonderful “right” relationship. But herbs do possess properties which can enhance libido by improving circulation, hormone levels, nerve function, or all of them. I have seen especially that menopausal women, many of whom have lost much of their sex drive, experience rapid and powerful benefits. Love makes the world go around, and we are fortunate to have many things that can enhance our experience. Maca, Rhodiola rosea, Ashwagandha and other herbs can open up the love gates and get all the good mojo flowing.
February 19th, 2009 at 9:18 am
I guess im going to get me some of those hot plants
March 7th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
