It would be best to integrate practicality and creativity in our daily lives in order to reduce waste accumulation. Recycling or reusing paper as well as plastic products shows that we care about the conservation of our natural resources. We can even save time and money by finding ways on how to reuse our items. Paper and plastic products are the most wasted materials everyday and this should be stopped. If we have to dispose them, let us do it properly so that they do not just get piled up in land fills - they still serve a purpose, we just need to find them out.

Happy Earth Year!

I own a used bike, which under my one-year ownership hasn't been used to its fullest greenest potential.

Thanks to more decent weather and the cheerful sight of cyclists pedaling happily around town, I decided to invest in a bike pump and I am 'biking' my errands, including my weekly trip to Whole Foods. It is so much more enjoyable than driving (decent weather provided), and it is a great green alternative to walking! The problem is that I live in Boston, meaning the bike goes when winter befalls :(

So, seasonal resolution aside, I am going to make recycling my year-round green resolution, starting with paper. I hate to admit I don't sort my trash. Everything ends up in that one trash can and one trash bag, sometimes two...

But this contagious Green Movement thing going on is beginning to knock some sense into me.

Over the last few days I have been dismantling a tower of paper pulp ready to be recycled. This five feet tall mass of lecture notes and journal articles is an unsightly product of four intense years in college...who knows, I might need some of this later, right? Well, all it has really done is create clutter. It is time to de-clutter and recycle! Luckily my town has a curbside recycling program, and I am going to use it!

To find out what recycling programs or centers are near you, type in your zipcode here ttp://www.nrc-recycle.org/consumers.aspx

We are starting a compost bin for our home grown veggies this year! My boys love to eat herbs, veggies, and fruit straight out of the garden. We are also participating in a CSA this season, yeah, can't wait:)

For Earth Day this year I decided to use less paper towels. Every time I go to grab a paper towel I stop and make sure I use my dish towel instead and I have started a rag draw so that you can grab, wipe and go instead of always doing quick clean ups with paper towels. It's really been a pretty easy switch.

We bring our own bags when we shop. Paper or Plastic? No Thanks. We have our own. This is one easy way of going green.

I run my dishwasher, washing machine and dryer on the shortest cycle and run them once a week. This has saved on electricity use and time.

We also have been driving a hybrid car and need to fill it up only once a month. We have had this car for 5 years. We have saved a lot of money doing this.

I started using reusable bags instead of plastic bags at the stores and love it!! My kids always take reusable containers for lunch. I am learning about all kinds of ways to not waste and am looking forward to introducing them to my family! Happy healthy Earth Day "Everyday"!!

My Earth Day pledge is to collect my oldest sisters recyclables for her since she apparently doesn't share the same views or concerns about the environment as I do. I already live a very green lifestyle & I constantly tell my family how important it is to save energy, conserve water & reduce pollution as much as possible but when I'm talking to her about it I feel like I'm wasting my breath & talking to a wall. It's very frustrating when I go throw something in the trash at her house I see all the plastic bottles & other recyclable materials that I would otherwise put aside w/my recycling at home. I would also like to start buying eco friendly kitchen garbage bags for my own home it kills me to toss them in the garbage cans while I'm recycling all the other plastic bags like newspaper & shopping bags. I also need to remember to take my reusable shopping bags w/me when I go shopping, I have 5 or 6 of them & always forget to use them!!! I planted seeds w/the kids today & picked up nasty random garbage in a parking lot in honor of Earth Day but I truly belive we should Make Every Day Earth Day!!

I will teach my students to use our resources wisely and try to use more recycled items to make art projects than I ever have before. I am going to come up with a great art project for those plastic water bottles.
