Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22. In celebration of our planet’s big day, why not take a moment to make a simple green resolution for the coming year?

Here’s mine: Bike to work at least once a week.
Full disclosure: The last time I owned a bike, it was a blue Schwinn with a hot pink basket and I was 10. Sadly, I’ve outgrown that bike. But now, after months of bugging my friends for bike recommendations and visiting all of the bike shops around town, I’ve narrowed down my choices and am finally ready to invest in an “adult” bike at last. By this Earth Day, I am determined to be a proud bike owner/commuter/road warrior at least once a week. Why not every day? After years of making (and always breaking) grandiose New Year’s resolutions, I’ve learned that the simple, realistic changes are the ones that really last.
Now it’s your turn. Tell us one simple green change you’re planning to make for Earth Day. Everyone who enters a comment on this post between now and April 30th will be entered to win a $25 Whole Foods Market gift card and a FEED 100 bag. The winner will be announced the first week of May in our Whole Story blog, so stay tuned!
And even if you don’t win the prizes, your green resolution efforts will be rewarded with a cleaner, greener, healthier planet for many Earth Days to come. Here’s to wishing you and yours a Merry Earth Day and a Happy Earth Year!

I am going to show more enthusiam and actively support my wife’s recycling endeavors.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
My in-laws live in an area of Colorado where the recycled items are limited. I have previously offered to carry off cans and plastics to area that will recycle these items. I have met resistance because my in-laws think it is too much trouble. I plan to escalate my green crusade and convince them otherwise!

We are doing a vegetable garden this year. We are also teaching the kids about preserving the environment and saving/re-using energy. We have already managed to reduce the number of times lights stay on when there is no-one in the room. We are also working on time spent in the shower.

My Earth Day resolution is to reduce my carbon footprint as much as possible. I contacted my electric utility to take advantage of their renewable energy program. I replaced the incandescent lightbulbs in my house with CFL bulbs. I recycle as much as I possibly can and there is no excuse since I live very close to two recycling centers as well as participating in my city’s weekly recycling program. I have switched over to reusable shopping bags, water bottles and coffee mugs/cups. I am also making a resolution to use cloth kitchen towels rather than paper towels and have switched to single ply, recycled toilet paper (which took some getting used to…LOL!). I love my Mother (Earth). She’s the only one we’ve got!
April 30th, 2009 at 11:18 am
100% commitment to using canvas bags every time I go grocery shopping.
April 30th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
I am planning on growing my own organic garden outside of my house for one. I am also trying to increase awareness through our office on utilizing organic substances vs. chemicals for household cleaners to make-up. Baby steps, but it will all help for cleaner waste = cleaner soil = cleaner plants/air/animals/etc.

Bring our compost contributions to our local CSA farm; use reusable bags to store my gym laundry and shoes instead of the plastic bags supplied by the gym; stop buying bottled water and bring reusable bottles everywhere.

Camille Petrocelli: I already do lots of things to recycle and one that I really love is arts & crafts with things we normally throw away. Like envelopes that our bills come in can be cut into strips, rolled into paper beads and strung up for a cute necklace or bracelet and the patterned paper makes great card backgroundsor bookmarks. Magazine inserts can be punched out & make paper flowers used in collage or scrapbooks…paper rolls inside toliet paper or paper towels can make cute birdhouse (inside use only) just cut to size and put a cardboard roof on and decorate…plastic lids from food products are great for mixing paints, or putting a photo in for a cute frame,,,I think I save everything for future uses (arts & crafts and more).
so many more ideas…

My plan this year is to be electrically green in my home.
April 30th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
I am going to try to stay away from take-out and all the non-recyclable containers napkins and silverware that go along with it!
May 2nd, 2009 at 1:04 am
There are several things that have done to go green:
1)eating organic foods and patronizing local farmers;
2)no longer buying bottled water, but instead using a water filter and transporting my water in a reusable container;
3)Reusing pots/pans that were only used for something simple, before washing them;
4)Placing a recycling bin next to the trash can to ensure that I don’t throw away things that I can recycle;
5)unplug all non-essential electronics/devices when not in use (i.e. cell phone charger)
6)use natural cleaning products
7)reuse glass containers from foods for storage/or drinking glasses

EARTH DAY will be celebrated by recycling all the trash that we will be picking up in the community. We always fill glass and pitchers with water and leave it to air out to get rid of the chemicals. Don’t even need the commercial filters.

Wash our laundry in cold water and leave it to air dry. Receive all bills electronically. Use reusable bags, bottles, and use my own containers for takeout. Use cloth diapers more frequently and unplug all my cords when not in use. Also, walking to the stores, banks, and parks in lieu of driving.

We have only led off to apply an electric vehicle on some farming solid ground , which is 95 % created of recyclable product -.this was the first of many to get, I think.One minor outcome is the distance it can cover – but, when you cerebrate it is merely used on the farm, it has not been. Forced to a fault far over distance.I fully support all efforts to keep up, recycle and recycle – and it should be something that the whole nation.should be doing – NOW! .

When you are trying to charter an apartment, what are the main things they are looking for on your credit history in order for an approval? Are they concerned in all of your credit card invoices and other payments or are they mainly interested with your rental history and bankruptcy backcloth? How do flat building complexes look at your credit when approving you for an apartment?

We have really been looking into solar energy for about a calendar year and as a result the two of us eventually made the decision based mostly on upon the pairing of the governtment incentive programs combined with extremely cost efficient financing. The two of us have actually already been researching into solar power for around a twelve months and as a result the two of us last but not least made the actual commitment based mainly upon the blend of governtment incentive programs coupled with incredibly economical loans. I literally could not imagine how inexpensive everything ended up being and therefore my partner and i have been a new solar household for about one month and consequently almost everything seem as if it all is undoubtedly working out excellent. We are able to actually observe how very much electrical energy my spouse and i aer saving each night and it is simply really amazing. I alway considered that solar power appeared to be backed through a good deal of media hype nevertheless My partner and i can certainly convey to everyone the fact that the product is undoubtedly the authentic deal. We wish we had implemented it a long time ago.

Your web site seems truly marvelous. Being a blog writer myself, I really value the time you took in producing this write-up.

Thanks for this wonderful article. One more thing to mention is that many digital cameras come equipped with any zoom lens that allows more or less of any scene to become included simply by ‘zooming’ in and out. These types of changes in focusing length usually are reflected in the viewfinder and on significant display screen at the back of any camera.

Very sad to think buying full spectrum fluorescent bulbs is your contribution to ecology. They contain mercury and cost more energy to dispose of–not to mention if you drop a bulb the danger–and any neurologist will tell you they cause migraines –even seizures in susceptible people–and some researchrs will tell you they cause retinal damage in susceptible people due to the increased blue spectrum uv’s in the full spectrum versus conventional bulbs—the best way to contribute to the saving of our planet is to have less children!!!!!!!!!!!
