Now let me say right off the bat that this awesome beef isn’t available in all of our stores. Sorry! It’s a cool story even if you can’t get it in your store, though. Here’s the scoop.

The Panorama Grass-Fed Meats will exclusively supply organic grass-fed Angus beef from the Northern Arapaho Indian Tribe to the Whole Foods Market stores in our Rocky Mountain Region (Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas and Utah).
Operated by the Northern Arapaho Indian Tribe on 595,000 acres on Wyoming’s Wind River Indian Reservation in West Central Wyoming, Arapaho Ranch received USDA organic certification in 2008. The tribe has raised an all-Angus herd -a breed known for producing tender, highly flavorful beef – on a year-round diet of grass and forbs since the 1940s. Its 3,500 cattle and 2,800 yearlings never enter a feedlot, are never fed antibiotics or growth-stimulating hormones and coexist with predators and a diverse mix of wildlife on Wyoming’s high plains.
The Northern Arapaho tribe is committed to maintaining the biodiversity and ecological balance of its land. Even wolves and coyotes, normally regarded as cattle’s predators, are protected. The cattle move freely over abundant pastureland, sometimes spurred to move by those very predators – a natural check against overgrazing. Loss of cattle to predators is miniscule.
I hear the taste of this beef is incredible. But don’t take my word for it – in his Denver Westword blog, Tyler Nemkov writes about attending a kick off announcement with tribal leaders and getting to eat some of the beef. Sounds like a good time.
The Arapaho Ranch beef furthers our commitment to providing access to local food since the cattle are raised in Wyoming and processed in Colorado.
If you are lucky enough to live in our Rocky Mountain region and have access to this beef, try it out and let us know what you think.

I am the Director for the Wind River Native Science Field Center. The taste of the beef from the Arapaho Ranch is outstanding!! I would also like to add, we bring students to do field work at the ranch (visual exploration), research food systems and look at food’s “carbon food footprint” So, not only is the meat excellent but due to the way the Arapaho operate, it is also an excellent learning tool.

What a wonderful example the Arapaho have set!!!! They are producing a food product that is of the finest quality and showing the rest of the ranching world that raising can be done in a sustainable way where cattle coexist with predators. I commend them on all of their work and also commend Whole Foods for purchasing their products and supporting Native Enterprises.
I hope that this example the Arapaho tribe has set with its 3,500 cattle and 2,800 yearlings never having to enter a feedlot, and never being fed antibiotics or growth-stimulating hormones as well as the ability to coexist with predators and a diverse mix of wildlife on Wyoming’s high plains can become a model for all future cattle ranchers.
The fact that Northern Arapaho tribe is committed to maintaining the biodiversity and ecological balance of its land is evident in what they are doing and a major step in the business of raising beef and ranching.

When can we get this beef in your Henderson, NV store. I noticed that at this store the sign that used to say that all beef sold was grass fed and with no transgenics or antibiotics etc. What has changed? I buy everything at your store with confidence. Now I am having doubts, please clarify this issue for me. Thanks

Is the Arapaho Ranch beef available in WF stores in the Phoenix, Chandler, Gilbert areas of Arizona? A butcher shop employee at the Chandler store said that their grass-fed beef was from Nebraska… If not what can you tell me about the meat’s origin? Thank you for your time. Have a great day.
