Summer’s FINALLY here, and we at Whole Foods Market are excited to unveil our Top 10 Summer Wine picks! Our buyers literally search the globe for the snazziest, zippiest, tangiest and tastiest wines they can find, and we stack them on our sales floors, sample them with our shoppers where possible, and, of course, buy them ourselves and drink them all summer long. Summer has some great excuses to drink good tasty wines: cookouts, concerts in the park, visits to the beach, sun going down, sun not going down…you get the drift here.
This summer we have included wines from Austria, Tuscany, California and the Napa Valley, Spain, Chile, Germany and Australia. We’ve included cool white varietals like Gruner Veltliner, Verdejo and a tasty Prosecco. We’re featuring some good grilling reds too, like Aussie Shiraz, Napa Merlot and a spicy Tuscan Chianti. 
Wines to please everybody. And don’t forget the organically grown Rosé – we have you covered there too. These wines will go with anything you cook. Or don’t cook. We think “porch wine” in the summer.

Is this the first year you guys are doing this? I like this bundling concept. How much is the most expensive wine in this selection?
Also, what do you think of Roses in general? Growing trend? Upscale? Beginner wine?

Nice list. Why doesn’t Whole Foods have good bag-in-box wine choices? So much more environmentally better than glass bottles, which use tons of energy whether they are made from recylced glass or not.

Glad to see Gruner Veltliner listed as a cool, white varietal. It pairs well with so many foods and dishes, from BBQ to Asian to asparagus. Great picks overall on the Top 10 Summer Wines list.

I tried the Rutherford Hill Merlot. Oh, my! This is by far one of the most flavorful, smooth Merlot’s I’ve experienced. While I don’t normally spend $20 on a bottle of wine, this one was really worth it.

While your “competition’s” prices may be cheaper, so is the wine they carry. The store with the intials “TJ” carries obscure foreign wines that are low priced. Take them home and they taste like the cheapest domestic wines they have in regular grocery stores. I just wanted to say that because almost every bottle of wine I’ve gotten from your “competition” across town tastes like a bad bottle of wine when I took it home. I have wasted too much time and money on cheap wine. Cheap wine is cheap wine, even if it comes from Europe or Latin America. You get what you pay for. Now I hope I haven’t said the wrong thing, but I just had to say it. No more cheap wine. Cheap wine is often bad wine. You get what you pay for.

What about a vinho verde from Portugal? There is no better summer wine, in my opinion. Light, refreshing, and a little bubbly. Oh yeah, and incredibly inexpensive.

I heard you had a $3.99 (approximagely) wine that was pretty good, and I was trying to find out the name of it. I don’t want to waste a trip to the store to find out the name. Trader Joe’s has a decent cheap wine, which I can find the name of on google, so was wondering why I can’t find out the name of your budget wine on the web.

@Patti Our discount wine that is comparable to the Trader Joes wine is called Three Wishes.
