We just bought some raspberries at a different store and some of them were old...and I thought- when are raspberries at their peak. And this explained it all! Thanks for the info! You are at a much higher longitude than even the most northern production areas for berries here in North America so I'll bet these are some of the last fruits that come out of the forest before winter sets in - what a wonderful visual you've described.
