Great post Chris! Sometimes home-cooked meals are the key to happiness. Thanks for sharing this podcast!
October 11th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
I find if I don’t anchor my mornings with a solid meal, my entire day can be thrown off… all to often the coffee kills my appetite.
October 12th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
I guess it seems obvious, at least to me that foods affect our moods. Just think about how grumpy we get when we are to hungry, or how tired you are if you over eat, or eat junk foods.
October 12th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Nothing replaces a home-cooked meal, in my opinion. I adore cooking and setting the table with the kids, and having a happy husband walk in the door to a delicious meal.
October 13th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
That was alot of good info it give me a idea on what i can be eating to help my mood
October 13th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
I wholeheartedly believe all that Malia Curran is saying about the foods we put into our bodies affecting our moods. Essential are the soluble fibers (apples) as well as healthy fats (almonds). I also believe that lack of hydration will create a bad mood. Eating well & drinking plenty of water = good mood.

I heard about your podcasts from Go Graham Go. I really enjoyed learning about the preventative measure to take that can help my mood, especially the foods that can help stabilize blood sugar.
Thanks!
October 13th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
I really enjoyed the podcast – especially the part about mood. I recently added Fish oil supplements to my diet and have noticed a marked difference in my attitude. I’m glad to learn about the blood sugar stabilization with the soluble fiber. That was new to me. I also find out about the podcast thru a blog called Go Graham Go. Thanks for the info!
October 13th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Wow–I hadn’t really thought much about the scientific connection between certain foods and your mood/mood swings. I already love apples, tea and nuts–so this is another reason to keep having them! I’ll also have to look more into the supplements she mentioned. Very interesting!
October 13th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
I have to admit, I am very careful about making sure the littles eat properly and have proper snacks so their blood sugar levels stay constant but when it comes to myself….not so much and I really notice a difference!!
October 13th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
I didn’t know that antioxidants help keep you healthy when you’re stressed. That’s a good thing to know. I found out about your podcasts on gograhamgo.com, but I’ve always loved going to your store!
October 13th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
I think my depression is related to poor nutrition. Thank you for this great info.
October 13th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
i also found this from go graham go. i really like the addition of podcasts, and i’d love to see more podcasts on kid and family related topics.
October 14th, 2009 at 2:16 am
I heard about this from My Dallas Mommy. We eat terribly at our house and I wonder why I am always tired! I know now that I really need to be cooking and eating better for our mental health. It would be great to be able to boost everyone’s mood around the house. Thanks!
October 14th, 2009 at 7:56 am
I heard about this on http://www.gograhamgo.com. It was very interesting to hear about healthy foods and healthy eating patterns. I learned that healthy fats are omega 3’s and omega 6’s….which are in fish and flax seeds.
October 14th, 2009 at 8:24 am
I heard about this podcast from the Go Graham Go Blog. Glad to hear about the 5HTP. My hubby started taking it last month and liked the results, my daughter and I are going to start taking it also.
October 14th, 2009 at 9:56 am
Audrey is right on! Lack of water can make a big time grump!
October 14th, 2009 at 11:05 am
Thanks to Go Graham Go for sending me here! This was a great podcast for me to hear. I got a whole lot of great information about the types of foods that affect my mood. That is especially important during this season where the weather outside is getting cooler and dreary. It’s good to have tips on what foods could help boost my mood.
October 14th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
I too learned about this podcast from http://www.gograhamgo.com/ this just reminded me again how feeding one healthy cell can produce many cells. Good food produce those healthy cells as I am recovering form stage 3 metastatic melanoma I am so aware of what I want to put in my body to create more healthy cells free of cancer
October 14th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
this was such a helpful resource! i am going to be more thoughtful in my meal planning and see if i can tell a difference.
October 15th, 2009 at 10:13 am
I loved this because it was on point and concise. Very helpful info.
For a healthy mood I have to remember to keep in my basics:
get plenty of sleep
eat breakfast
eat healthy and avoid junk
avoid negative or toxic people
take the time to give thanks and be grateful
and if in a crisis, a long, relaxing walk always cheers me up.
I have also found B 1 to be a quick mood soother.
October 16th, 2009 at 3:28 am
Good food, and balance with hydration keep my spirits high!
October 16th, 2009 at 11:28 am
Great podcast, I learned a ton! Keep up the great work.
October 16th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
I appreciated the insight in the interview (Q&A) about mood enhancing foods. I certainly feel the impact of what I consume both when I eat junk and when I eat fresh, whole foods. The scientific research was interesting, but waaaaaay over my head! I’ll focus on the end results and appreciate them. Thank you. Nice project. Autumn
October 16th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
We take it for granted that our bodies will function with junk no matter what. Thanks for the information. Totally trying to live a better life with eating the right foods.
October 16th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
I definitely believe what I eat affects my moods. After listening to this podcast, I now have some more ideas of what I can do to add more nutrients and vitamins to my diet. Thanks for the information. Sure wish there was a Whole Foods closer to where I live.
October 17th, 2009 at 9:16 am
Very informative. I gotta stock up in the flax seeds! I keep hearing about their health benefits, but always seem to forget them once I’m at the store…
October 17th, 2009 at 4:13 pm

October 17th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Great podcast! I had no idea that amino acides affected mood like this. I will def be making as much of an effort as I can to get more in my diet.
October 18th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
A lot of great info in a short amount of time. Thank you! I’m headed to Whole Foods tomorrow.

I’ve been giving my 4 year old EFA supplements for his entire life and listening to this podcast reinforced the obvious. I need them too! Thank you.

would you please comment on o-ring tests for energy quality in food relating them to moods.
October 19th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Completely agree with everything said on this podcast. As a recent college grad, I’ve done my experimenting with living on pita chips and Swedish Fish during exam time — to say the least, my friends weren’t thrilled with my new demeanor.
delicious nutritious food is everything.
October 19th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
You have to eat and drink fluids to stay balanced. I use to forget to eat solid, balanced foods and would find myself spinning out of balance throughout midday. It sounds like a slogan, but eating a great breakfast sure works for me!
October 20th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Great information- Love the idea of short podcasts for this type of information.
October 20th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
I think eat healthy foods makes you feel better at least it does for me.
October 20th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
This was interesting, especially the info about the supplements. I would love to see a list created of mood boosting foods.
October 20th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
Very informative and very helpful! Thanks!
October 20th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Thanks for sharing a simple truth- we run on food!
October 21st, 2009 at 10:32 am
The Mood/Food Connection was very interesting. I have
suffered from depression and anxiety for a very long time!
I am going to try to eat better and take supplements to
aid my prescription medications! Maintaining blood sugar
levels does make sense for more stable mood and well-being!
Now that the cooler temperatures are here, hot tea sounds
like a wonderful benefit to feeling happier.
Many thanks, Cindi
October 21st, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Thanks a lot. Great information.
October 22nd, 2009 at 10:31 am
Thanks for the great information! I’ve heard some information here and there about certain food has influence on mood but never paid real attention to. It’s good to hear “facts” other than just rumors.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:48 am
Great podcast, and I enjoy the timing as well. As fall sets in and we shift down from running around during summer it is good to slow down, and commune over food!
October 26th, 2009 at 7:50 am
I have a dear friend and neighbor. We always take hot soup to the other if one of us gets a cold, or the flu. A simple tradition which I believe plays a big big part in my healing.
October 26th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
We make it a point to have dinner and breakfast together as a family. We discuss the upcoming day in the morning, then reflect upon the day in the evening. It is a nice way to mix food and family together!
October 26th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
My girls friends and I try to make dinner together every wednesday. Lovely girl time with good company and great food.
October 26th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Starting the day with great food is very important, but remembering to take time to eat throughout the day keeps one going.
October 26th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
I was lucky to grow up learning to cook at a very young age! The value of cooking, eating, sharing food is a big part of our home. Glad to find so many others who feel the same way.
October 26th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Social gatherings around food have been a tradition for all times.
October 26th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Just came across this podcast series! I am looking forward to listening to more.
October 26th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
I really enjoyed this podcast and the series, which I have followed now for about a year.
October 26th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Good to think about food for mood balance. All to often however, we overlook, or forget about the value of hydration in maintaining good overall health.
October 26th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
My kids are doing much better in school now that we are taking the time to have breakfast together in the morning. So many kids eat on the run, or not at all and fade mid morning.
October 27th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Harvest season is a great season to get back into some serious cooking after the summer.
October 27th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
Good tie in with the rest of the website. I just read your feature on pears and apples, and will be taking my boys to a farm this weekend to pick.
October 27th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
I really enjoyed this podcast, thanks!
October 27th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
I’m excited for the holiday season and all of the fun with food and family which comes with the season.
October 27th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Good to hear all the warm talk around food! Indeed full files are bodies and our soul.
October 27th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Keep and open mind and an open mouth
Don’t be afraid to eat and enjoy!
October 27th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
For me, my mood starts to improve long before eating. As soon as the house starts to fill with the aroma from cooking I notice the entire family starts migrating towards the kitchen, by the time we are ready to eat they are poking their fingers in the pot
October 28th, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Some days my kids come home from school and they are so spun out. They ask for candy for a quick fix, but if I get them to eat a solid snack, like soy butter and crackers I see the affect of leveling their moods.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Big believer in the positive value of foods on moods, thanks for covering this topic!
October 28th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Thanks for the podcast Chris! I enjoyed the coverage about breath as well.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
I see the value in all of us, young and old alike, starting and sustaining our days with healthy foods. To often we wonder what the reason is for a lack of energy and mood drops, and it is as simple as running on empty.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
This ties in nicely with the other podcasts on this page.
October 29th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Great podcast! I’m going home for a nice friday meal now!!!
October 30th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Cooking, the process, is healing to me. I love having great food, and cooing with friends and family, this gives me a sense of peace and happiness which in turn helps with overall health.
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:05 pm
We do a nice tradition in on our block. There are 4 families and we take turns twice a month- getting together at each others houses. The best part, the kids all help cook, which is both fun and funny… so the food isn’t always the greatest, but the bonding is brilliant!
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:49 pm
I love food and thank your store for providing access to so much great, fresh produce! Cooking is such a natural way to keep our spirit and body happy!
