Going on tour is kind of like taking a trip to visit family. In every city there are fans and friends who consider me part of theirs. After all, we have a very personal relationship. They have used my music for everything from falling in love (weddings and proposals), relaxation in the bubble bath, recuperation and healing – and even in the labor room when they give birth to their babies.
My tour this year travels to over 40 cities in nine weeks. I spend a lot of time on the tour bus with my musical guests and the crew. It’s really not very glamorous, and I always say it’s a good thing we all get along so well – because there is no where to hide. So, just like packing up for any road trip,
we need plenty of munchies to keep us occupied. Of course, we can’t go crazy with sweets because our wardrobe still has to fit by New Year’s Eve. So, we try to eat as healthy as possible. Thank goodness for Whole Foods, which is always the last stop before we get on the bus.
You can watch a short video of Jim shopping at Whole Foods Market.
During the day, I have radio and TV interviews and it’s really easy to grab some raw almonds or dried fruit to eat on the run. I just discovered the Think bars – super fruit and super food. You never know what kind of drinks the stations will have, and I really like to drink green tea. So, I stick a few tea bags and a Think bar in my jacket just in case they only serve coffee and donuts.
Before each concert we do a sound check to make sure our mics and earpieces are working and the sound is balanced throughout the theatre. Then to dinner, which the theatre provides. Sometimes it’s absolutely delicious and sometimes – not. I can’t afford to be “sick” in the middle of a concert, so I keep 365 Simple Digestive tablets on hand.
Here’s a sample of what our concert guests are hearing:
I know most artists don’t do this, but I have a Meet ‘n Greet for members of my VIP Club after every concert. That adds up to over 200 hugs or handshakes every evening. It’s not that I’m a “germ-o-phobe,” but I can’t tempt fate and get sick. I do take a lot of vitamins and just in case – I have 365 Flu Ease, Guard or Sambucol Immune. The show must go on!
I think I’ve been a good influence on the cast and crew. When we’re exhausted after a concert we all pile onto the bus, get in comfortable clothes, maybe open a bottle of wine – but immediately go for the veggies and hummus, Organic White Cheddar Popcorn, Paul Newman Protein Pretzels and cookies. Personally, I LOVE the Organic Natural Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, which are my treat to myself after the concert.
Let me just say, that I couldn’t think of a more appropriate store than Whole Foods to help sponsor my Beautiful World Tour. I’m in Whole Foods at least once a week throughout the year. Whether I’m looking for a healthy snack, vitamins, or picking up something for dinner, I’m hooked.
When Jim was preparing to head out on tour this holiday season, he wanted to make the whole experience greener for his fans. Whole Foods Market became a sponsor by providing our reusable Better Bags to pack up the merchandise sold at his shows.

I just had this conversation with my lady this afternoon. I really need to get into better snacking. Not only that, but getting into the habit of preparing in advance. Today for instance, I am working retail near downtown Detroit, and I’m just about the only store open in the immediate area, and the only thing our store has to offer is soda, chocolate and sugary|salty covered nuts. So once I’m get home, I’ll be so hungry, it’s hard to avoid eating the fastest meal possible, which isn’t always the healthiest. I recently signed up to get twitter updates from whole foods. With better planning, and some good ideas, I will ‘break the habit’ and make a healthier me!

Living in a college setting makes it tough to maintain a healthy diet, similar to the way it would be on tour… although I won’t deny my love for late night pizza. In order to stay healthy, especially in the winter months, my housemates and I stock up on sources of vitamin C and protein. Clementines taste best when it is cold outside! Omelets with spinach and cheese fill you up in the morning so you’re not snacking too much during the day. And I firmly believe that eating the actual food is better than loading up on vitamins – not only because it’s healthier but it tastes good

Hi , I lead a very hectic life as well but good health is always formost on my mind. I am always reaching for a healthy snackin between breakfast, lunch and dinner. Right now I am enjoying, Justins maple almond butter packets. They are premeasured so you don’t have to worry about portion size. They are also very handy and make eating healthy on the go easy. Sometimes I eat the nut buttter right out of the wrapper for a quick burst of energy. If I have time I add the nut butter to smoothies or my two favorite ways of eating Justines amond butter is: On top of Macaines steel cut oatmeal with flaxseed, wheatgerm adn soy or nonfat milk. I also like to slice an apple in half, spread on the nut butter dip into sunflower seeds and raisins and drizzle with honey! Yum. If you want you could also melt down an oz of dark chocolate(endangered species) is great and drizzle on top! I hope you enjoy these snacks as much as I do! Enjoy Your tour! Sincerely, Debby P.S I shop Whole Foods every week and couldn’t agree more that they make a great partnership with you.

Prepare good old raisins, cranberries, cashews, almonds, banana chips, pretzels and little bit of chocolate chips just mixed together and put it in a small bag and bring with everywhere. If I want to make more little more sweet, put all the nuts in a pan and toast it little bit, and put some of honey on it.
December 7th, 2009 at 10:01 pm

I’ve also started eating Lara Bars, which are mostly raw, if I’m having a busy week. Of course, the Fuji Apples at Whole Foods are the best on the go snack, especially if you add some almond butter. Yum.

We all snack on Foods Should Taste Good chips from their multigrain to their lime and chocolate. I either make an herb dip or we have hummus with our chips. Raw Spinach leaves sprinkled with Ancient Sea Salt. (From my favortie WFM, Northbrook)
I buy a few bunches of spinach every time the organic variety from Cal Organic is offered, wash the dirt off, spin dry, and store in plastic bags for the week. The sweetness of the spinach paired with the pink Ancient Sea Salt stop all snack food cravings.

we love chocolate–Green and Blacks organic dark is our fave, but we’ll take others. We LOVE the garlic/dill cheddar cheese and nut thins crackers, and apples–gala, especially, but any good crisp sweet ones will do. I also pack fresh ground peanut butter, celery sticks with salmon cheese spread (cream cheese, smoked salmon, green onions, shredded dill havarti), and a selection of nuts from the bulk department. I also take my own granola–made from organic oats I buy in bulk–and creamy yogurt. When we travel, we take food to cook in our room, even though sometimes it means we have to search harder for a room with a stove and refrigerator. It is so worth it to stay healthy!

December 8th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Of course, Christmas cut-outs are my snack for the month of December. Most months I love raspberries!

December 8th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Not being able to have anything with gluten or dairy makes things a bit more difficult for me in the snack dept.
That’s one of the reasons I love visiting Whole Foods. They have such a wide selection of healthy gluten free snacks to choose from….let’s see – sushi, rice crispy bars, gluten free cookies, tons of good fruit, vegees and hummus, gluten free crackers and hummus, rice chips and NUTS!
Merry Christmas Everyone!!
December 8th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
I like to make my own trail mix with different nuts, dried fruits and other items from the bulk aisle, alternating between sweet and savory mixes. Sometimes I spend a few minutes just staring at the bins in Whole Foods and thinking about how I might mix things up — thanks for the great selection!
December 8th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
So many to choose from! I love Newman’s Alphabet Cookies and Annie’s Bunny Cookies. Pretzels are also a favorite, and Stonyfield’s Raspberry Yogurt (Raspberry Lemonade in the summer!). Fresh fruit, Nature’s Valley Apple Crisp granola bars and anything dark chocolate also top the list!

December 8th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
when I’m running around I like to throw a couple of Larabars in my bag to snack on. They’re raw, gluten-free and come in a variety of flavors, so it seems like eating something different each time, well, ok, each flavor is a little different
December 8th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
One of my top snacks at the moment is Horizon organic yogurt with granola or trail mix from the bulk foods section. Today it happens to be a mix of dried cranberries, coconut flakes, pepitas and almonds in vanilla yogurt. Seriously. Delicious.

December 8th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Today’s afterschool snack was a new one for me. I have two avocados that sorely need to be used, and I’ve read about raw vegan chocolate pudding before, using avocado as the base. Since these were a touch past prime I added more cocoa and sweetner than was probably necessary, but WOW! It was good stuff! And filling! And Healthy!
December 8th, 2009 at 4:59 pm

If I feel like snacking on chips, I grab some of Micheal Season’s Unsalted Potato Chips. This is very tasty and the chips stays crispy even if the bag has been opened for days. I also like Terra’s Plain Sweet Potato Chips. This is yummy as well. Other than paying attention to my calorie intake, I also try to pay attention to the sodium level of the food I eat. Both chips are very low in sodium.

December 8th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
In August I read the book “Eat to Live” by Dr. Joel Fuhrman It changed my life, my health, and the way I view food. My snacks now are oranges, dates, apples, hummus with whole wheat crackers, carrots, and nuts (walnuts, almonds, and raw cashews). I never thought I would get to the place where I actually prefer good, healthy snacks over high fat/sugar processed food. But I do and I’m not going back. I appreciate Whole Foods because I can buy great quality, nutritious foods.

When I’m in the mood for a snack, I usually go for dried fruit like raisins or apricots with nuts like almonds or cashews, or a bit of cheese. I find that something high in protein usually keeps the next bout of munchies away! Another favorite is a bit of cheese on a wheat cracker with a dab of jam

Can you suggest a breakfast snack to be used for a private
school that is nut free/not processed with nut products and
kosher. I must be something that can be eaten as finger
foods (muffin, cereal bar etc.).
As I mentioned it must be kosher and nut free.

Hi!
I love your music and your show! I was able to see you once in Billings, Montana. Soooo romantic! You and Kim are so much fun to listen to!
I would love to go shopping at Whole Foods. I am a vegetarian and am allergic to 27 different foods! The only place I can shop is in a health food store! Thank goodness we have some here, but we have no Whole Foods. I was in one in Fort Worth once, and it was awesome!
Please keep doing all you are doing. It makes a better world for all of us!
Keep your face toward the sun!
