It’s Whole Trade Month, which means time to celebrate the Whole Trade Guarantee and the hard-working folks who produce these outstanding products. By no coincidence, Whole Trade Month falls around Valentine’s Day, when we often think about chocolate and roses, two of our staple Whole Trade products. But the Whole Trade Guarantee encompasses so much more. From bananas to coffee to body care, we sources thousands of items from producers who share our commitment to quality, the environment and healthy working conditions.
But, before we go much further, maybe we should take a step back and reintroduce the Whole Trade program for those who are unfamiliar.
We believe that small choices you make every day really make a difference in the world. The Whole Trade Guarantee allows our customers to use their buying power to create new economic opportunities for workers in the developing world. The program includes products that are grown organically or respect the Earth without formal organic certification.
Strictly speaking, our Whole Trade Guarantee promises that every product meets the following criteria:
- Meets our high quality standards
- Provides more money to producers
- Ensures better wages and working conditions for workers
- Cares for the environment

We believe we have a responsibility toward all entities involved in our business: our customers, shareholders, Team Members, suppliers and the environment. The Whole Trade program allows us to extend this commitment to our producers in developing countries. In fact, we currently support communities in more than 50 countries via the Whole Trade program. Check out our interactive map, which shows these countries at a glance.
Whole Trade is your passport to exploring the world at its most delicious, exotic and beautiful while empowering hard-working farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs in developing countries. Throughout the month, we’ll be telling the stories of some of these very people. We hope you find them as inspiring as we do.
Be sure to look for the Whole Trade Guarantee logo the next time you are in our store, and rest assured that when you pick up a Whole Trade product, you are making a difference.
What’s your favorite Whole Trade product?

My favourite whole trade product are the bananas you carry. If it weren’t for these bananas, I would never buy them! Since so many banana plantation workers are mistreated and underpaid I normally refrain from buying this sweet treat, but thanks to the Whole Trade guarantee I can be sure these workers are being fairly compensated for their labour.

I believe in purchasing Fair Trade and we have tried to do so for many years. I have been using Everyday Shea products for a few months. I like the consistency and I love the ingredients: or I should say the “Lack of” ingredients!!
February 16th, 2010 at 10:04 am
Hi, keep up the good work. I love that you are supporting small farmers and workers all around the world. I also like that these people are being treated respectfullyby one of the America’s most profitable and expansive companies, sometimes when companies get bigger and more powerful they start to “get to big for their britches” as they say and treat the little man with declining respect, but I see the opposite happening here, you continue to be able to provide more and more people with great opportunities.

What I love about shopping at Whole Foods is I feel healthier just walking into the store.
I’m 42 years old, and just in the past couple of years, I have become more health conscious than ever before.
Healthier food does tend to be a little pricier, but I’d rather pay for it now than pay for it later.
I love knowing when I’m in whole foods, I dont have to think about “is this good for me”, cause I know it already is.
February 16th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
I love the coffee!
February 17th, 2010 at 3:45 pm
Fair trade is just that — an opportunity for consumers to ensure that the growers/makers are receiving a fair price for their product. I’ve been teaching my children about fair trade from the time the first programs began.
Grocery stores in our area do not do much to promote fair trade products, so I drive half an hour to Whole Foods to get them!
February 17th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Buying and using Fair Trade Products is a great way to contribute and support struggling countries and farmers to finally get what has come due to them for so long. Fair pay for fair labor for quality holistic products from bananas to body lotions. It benefits them as well as the consumer..Thank you farmers for your contribution to a better world.
February 17th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
My favorite Whole Trade product is the Allegro Drinking Chocolate. I tried this as a sample one day while shopping. In fact, I have found many of my favorite products as samples while shopping. I care very much how employees are treated and am willing to pay a bit more for ethical treatment of people, animals and our fabulous earth! We have got to take care and look out for all these things and teach our children to value these things as well.
February 17th, 2010 at 4:17 pm
It gives a hand up!!
February 17th, 2010 at 4:21 pm
I really appreciate opportunities that empower people. The products are of superior quality to those purchased elsewhere. I also feel confident that they will not endanger my health. thank you for caring about the “little people”
February 17th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
I absolutely love the idea of whole foods, because I am very conscious of what I put in my body. I believe in taking care of my body, by eating only foods that are natural or organic.
Eating right, and practicing yoga is a passion of mine.

I like shoppping at Whole Foods because I can buy the exact amount of organic grains I need from the bulk bins.
February 17th, 2010 at 5:03 pm
Buy the World’s interesting Goods at a Fair-Price is as good as it gets!
February 17th, 2010 at 5:10 pm
I love that more of my money (=buying power) is going back to the producer themselves. This is a positive feedback cycle that creates a win-win situation for everyone…..the producer reaps more benefits, thus is encouraged to produce higher quality goods. The buyer learns something about the producer…even if not by name, by knowledge that they are participating in a Whole Trade program and are taking pride in their goods, and thus is excited about supporting the producer (=buying more goods). Having a middle-man, such as Whole Foods, allows the buying power of individuals to be concentrated so that sustainable, healthy, and effective practices can be supported on a grander scale that any individual could do alone.
February 17th, 2010 at 5:10 pm
I like purchasing fair trade products because the working people earn a fair wage. I think that is important no matter where you live. It also makes it more fair for products made in our country. We hurt our own economy when we purchase cheap from overseas.
February 17th, 2010 at 5:43 pm
I can’t stand buying products from big corporations anymore.
I would feel much better buying these awesome whole trade products. And I’m sure they’re better for me, too.
February 17th, 2010 at 5:49 pm
I just love going to my two local Whole Foods stores in Philadelphia. Just walking in the store makes me feel good all over as all my senses become engaged. I love passing all the food aisles and smelling my way through the store… first and foremost — all the GORGEOUS, and very fresh flowers from all over the world. I go out of my way to treat myself or someone else close to me to flowers each week. I always tell my friends, “If you don’t get flowers from me when you’re alive, you’re not going to get them from me when you’re dead!”
Flowers enliven my senses, cheer up my soul, brighten my office and clean the air. All this good stuff happens for less than $10.00 a week and empowers poor people around the globe.
February 17th, 2010 at 6:06 pm
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your store! I have gluten sensitivity and have found your store not only to carry the items I need – but much more and friendly helpful people! I love the fact that you have a deli and sushi products and that you can feel free to eat right there. Can’t say enough about your store and the way it makes my life easier when finding organic, wholefood products.
I’ll be a LIFE long customer!! Thank you so much for being there!!

At last good products at a “fair” price. I am on not only a strict bugget but a fair trade way of life. Thank GOD for Whole Foods!!!! I only wish Whole Foods was in Northern Mich as well.
February 17th, 2010 at 6:26 pm
When I buy Whole Trade products I know where my money is going. I know that it helping the planet on many levels. Keep up the good work!
February 17th, 2010 at 6:33 pm
I love the fact that Whole Foods is committed to helping the environment, the people who are producing the food and us, the consumer so we are getting “whole foods”, nutritious, not chemicals. This is a Win/Win/Win and I will continue to support Whole Trade and Whole Foods!
February 17th, 2010 at 6:37 pm
My favorite fair trade product is Organic Essence Organic Shea Cream, it works great for massage and is USDA certified organic. I like that the communities that produce fair trade products are empowered to succeed in an agricultural business that honors the land and supports the local inhabitants.
February 17th, 2010 at 6:37 pm
It’s wonderful to be able to buy natural, healthy, and really great products from around the world and support the small independant companies and farmers.
February 17th, 2010 at 6:50 pm
Thank God there is something good in the world. Pure products from pure people…not corporations. I like that the money I spend will help people earn a living. And the products they produce are useful and better than average.
February 17th, 2010 at 7:21 pm
I never realized that becoming involved with whole foods would lead to so much other great stuff!! I feel like I’ve been so out of the loop in not only what’s good for my health but what’s good for the world. Thank you, and I will be definitely buying all sorts of products to help (and of course for enjoyment!) including your lotions and bath products! This winter skin is horrible!!
February 17th, 2010 at 7:28 pm
I’m all for whole trade products and supporting small farmers and workers around the world, especially in developing countries. Living in a cold climate, I love the hot chocolate on a cold winter night. I shop at Whole Foods every week. Love the bananas in a smoothie with blueberries. The face cream works wonders when the air is so dry in the winter.
February 17th, 2010 at 7:42 pm
I am just a good consumer looking to buy things. If that can help my family, my environment and if it helps others well isn’t that the way things should just be?
February 17th, 2010 at 7:45 pm
Very important to me is better wages and working conditons for worker. Ethical treatment of all people and animals is a priority in deciding where to shop. Whole Foods partnering with the Whole Trade practice and philosophy is key.
February 17th, 2010 at 7:52 pm
I always buy whatever Whole Trade products I find. Not only are they great products, it just makes good sense to help in whatever way we can. I now have several friends who do the same. We all need to work together.
February 17th, 2010 at 7:53 pm
Whole Trade products meet high quality standards, take care of the enviroment, provides more money to producers, and ensures adequate wages and working conditions for the workers.
My favorite fair traade products are banannas and roobios tea.
February 17th, 2010 at 7:56 pm
My husband just gave me fair trade earrings from Brazil and a fair trade brooch from Bali for Valentine’s Day. They are both lovely and special. We try to put our money where our values are.
February 17th, 2010 at 8:06 pm
I just recently found out what significance these products have not only for the people who produce them, but for those who use them. As companies become larger and larger, the products become more and more contaminated. These corporations not only pollute our bodies, they pollute our earth. I love buying the fair trade products not only for thier taste and superiority, but it’s very satisfying to know what you are supporting by choosing these brands. My favorite product is the fair trade brownies, yum!
February 17th, 2010 at 8:24 pm
Buying Whole Trade Products is an easy way to help others and get quality and useful products.
February 17th, 2010 at 8:29 pm
Our main focus in buying personal care products for our family is 1st- that they are cruelty free (no animal testing) and 2nd- that they don’t contain potential carcinogens. Those are the two basic criteria, but it’s an extra bonus to us when we can buy fair trade products. Part of the cruelty free philosophy is a bigger picture of trying to maintain habitats for native species. Industrialization in the western mold is horrible for native habitats. If the kind of fair trade collectives like the ones used by Every Day Shea, are far less disruptive to native species as well as helping people live better lives, directly, simply and efficiently. Lastly, the fact that these fair trade or “Whole Trade” products directly benefit women’s lives who are often excluded from the economic benefits of global trade. Good Job All Around!
February 17th, 2010 at 8:34 pm
Nothing could describe Whole Food Trade, Divine Chocolate! It is creamy and super choclatey for the chocolate lover with diserning taste.
February 17th, 2010 at 8:37 pm
I like whole trade purchase because it feels like you are supporting people and their families with meaningful work, lives and income. And just the fact that it still exists and will continue to exist if we support it.

It’s good to see more company’s and people doing the right thing when it comes to Mother Earth!
February 17th, 2010 at 8:51 pm
Being a small family farm member has many challenges. Earning a family supporting wage is difficult anywhere these days in the agricultural community.Taking care of the earth is a no brainer.Organic food is good for everyone, including mother earth. Please support organic food, you’ll be glad you did.
February 17th, 2010 at 8:54 pm
Products like this can only make you feel good inside and out!
February 17th, 2010 at 8:58 pm
I love the quality of the Whole Trade products- and the taste of the coffee is outstanding!
February 17th, 2010 at 9:04 pm
I believe in supporting Whole Trade because of not only the quality you get but also knowing you are helping the environment and supporting the workers of this company.
February 17th, 2010 at 9:07 pm
I appreciate the opportunity to use my buying power to create economic opportunities for workers in developing countries.
February 17th, 2010 at 9:16 pm
I really feel good about spending my money with companies and small business that support a healthy and labor fair value.
Spread the wealth and enjoy the health.
February 17th, 2010 at 9:40 pm
It truly comes from the earth!
February 17th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
Whole Trade – the real deal – It is refreshing to see companies that put in the extra effort to select and promote products that create viable and sustainable opportunities to those in developing countries and products that are “earth-friendly”.
Thanks, Bob
February 17th, 2010 at 9:59 pm
What I like best about purchasing Whole Trade Products is that it provide a quality product that is safe for the consumer and provide income for the people who make the product which in turn provides a better quality of life for them and their family. Last, but not least is the minimal impact that this natural product has on the enviroment, the carbon footprint
has been minimize to say the least which is always good.
Please, keep on pushing with your ideas to help mother earth and its people always.
February 17th, 2010 at 10:11 pm
I love the jewelry–inexpensive bracelets from small collectives (is it World of Good?)–that are colorful and are perfect for me. It’s not food or flowers, but something I use a lot.
February 17th, 2010 at 10:36 pm
I love your fair trade products…especially your personal care products…Alafia cocoa chapstick in paticular (it smells like chocolate and gives a nice sheen). I feel good about using it knowing that somewhere there is a fairly paid female worker making this with their hands from something from the soil and just maybe, one less souless machine. Also, I just read about Alafia on the web and it showed pictures of the ladies that make the shea butter…they are dressed in lovely colors, look happy and they all have lovely complections and skin…what better advertisement!!!
February 17th, 2010 at 10:50 pm
Buying Fair Trade keeps the money in the workers hands. The hands that take care of and produce the products that we love. One of my favorite product is coffee. My husband couldn’t live without it so I make sure he only purchases Fair Trade.
February 17th, 2010 at 10:59 pm
It’shameful in these times when so many companys are earning such high profits so few have any conscience or feel any responsibility for the way in which these profits are earned. If more people supported businesses like Whole Foods with their wallets things would most assuredly change. I like knowing my money is going to a company that cares about how people & food are treated. Respect & love for our planet and all things on it is important to me and this seems to be the philosophy of the people of Whole foods.
Thank you!
February 17th, 2010 at 11:12 pm
I buy Whole Trade products to give back to others and support a better way of producing products. I want my consumer dollars to count and express my beliefs!
Thank you for providing these alternatives.

There is much work to do to create a shift in the way we work with each other in the global community. Although being conscious of our connection; taking our values into action and having the intention for a more lawful and brotherly/sisterly commercial interaction is helpful and inspiring, I would like to hear more stories like Alaffia. Great work!
February 18th, 2010 at 12:26 am
My favorite is Honest Teas. I know that I am getting a great taste along with an organic tea.
February 18th, 2010 at 5:03 am
My favorite WF product are the cakes. Great ingredients, personally made, how can I go wrong?
I watch my sugar intake, I make sure that when I do have sugar I eat whole raw sugar. No refined, bleached, or lab made.
Since I changed my way of eating (about four years ago) WF has been able to supply me with all the ingredients I need to feed my family the best way I can.
February 18th, 2010 at 5:12 am
What I like best is that not only are the products fantastic, but they help other people
February 18th, 2010 at 5:14 am
It is not so much what I like about Whole Trade products, but why I appreciate Whole Trade products. I appreciate the fact that every purchase I make, will go towards a good cause. I love the fact that I am supporting something with a purchase. I try to give, and do good works, but even if I lack in that category, I can walk in to Whole Foods, by a whole trade product, and feel like I have made a small difference. Small differences, eventually add up to big change.
February 18th, 2010 at 5:15 am
In some small way, buying fair trade products helps build stronger communities and raises the standard of living of areas that produce fair trade products. Buy seeking out and purchasing these products I can also feel good about myself and the small part I play in helping these people and communities.
February 18th, 2010 at 6:40 am
I will certainly buy these products now! Great way to support our West African neighbors! Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
February 18th, 2010 at 6:47 am
Money is a way I can influence the world; Whole Trade, hits on several levels: customer friendly and producer friendly. Whenever I spend my hard earned dollars, I want as much
positive bang for the buck as possible;thank you Whole Foods
for assisting with this endeavor!

Healthy eating in one shopping stop!
February 18th, 2010 at 7:39 am
What a wonderful article, my favorite product is the chocolate. So much chocolat is traded and manufactured under awful conditions, your’s isn’t. Thanks Jeanne
February 18th, 2010 at 7:41 am
After completing the “Just Faith” coursework, my husband and I have slowly made steps towards Whole/Fair Trade products. It is still a mental adjustment I have to make to “pay more” for a product, rather than chasing the sale prices, knowing that we can’t make a difference unless we are willing to fairly compensate the workers. I’ve started with fair trade coffee and organic yogurts, and slowly add different products to my grocery buying list. I’ll give the Everyday shea products a try on my next visit to the store after reading this article. Thanks for keeping us informed!
February 18th, 2010 at 7:41 am
I spent ten days last summer working in Liberia, West Africa which is a rice culture. A one hundred pound bag of rice might feed a family for a whole month. But what else will they eat with the rice? Chicken? Maybe. Fish, possibly. When folks go out the door in the morning they often do not know where their next meal will come from. Buying any “fair trade” item is the best way those of us who live in plenty can immediately help people both in Africa and around the globe.
February 18th, 2010 at 7:55 am
Fair Trade. The word fair has a very strong meaning here. It means treating all people fair no matter where or what their place in this world is, I am talking about the people that work to grow and package the food. It also means being fair in what goes is in the food we eat. Nothing is in the food that we do not know about. The world would be a better place if everyone practiced Fair Trade.
Regards
Bonnie Walker

As I shop at Whole Foods and am able to purchase unique, healthy products throughout the store, I feel that I have made a wonderful progression from my participation in family food co-ops of the 1970s and local food co-op stores of the ’80s and ’90s.
Thank you Whole Foods for enlightening and supporting your customers in their efforts to eat healthier and wiser. I love to be able to purchase fair trade products. Your policy of having employees stocking the shelves during store hours is appreciated. Whenever I ask one a question, they are very helpful.
February 18th, 2010 at 8:31 am
I love this lotion. It is such a great product. I was so happy to hear that it is a good company also. One that cares about people and the environment, and gives back. That is so unusual these days. I love that Whole Foods seems to be associated with just this kind of company.
February 18th, 2010 at 8:33 am
I buy Fair Trade products so that the poor people envolved get a fair wage or living condition. I also like and trust the product quality when Fair Trade is involved.
February 18th, 2010 at 8:33 am
I feel it is so important to let the small businesses and families get a chance in supporting themeselves with pure goods. We want the small companies that care in our country!
February 18th, 2010 at 8:37 am
I love the chance to connect my life with others around the world and assure them of fair payment for their hard work. Buying fair trade gives me an opportunity to touch lives in other countries. Thank you for supporting global untiy and equity.
February 18th, 2010 at 8:38 am
Using Whole Trade products is one of the easier ways to make a difference. I use bath and body products daily anyway and now I am able to help out those in need without blinking an eye – I can just add them to my grocery list at Whole Foods.
February 18th, 2010 at 8:46 am
It is awesome to know people still care about generational crafting! These time honored skills are really falling by the wayside and it’s sad. Our children today, for the majority, are growing up not knowing what our ancestors learned from their elders. They are totally technological and haven’t a clue where our products come from, who makes them, how, and where it’s origination is. I’m all for this company to make it and others like it. Awesome!
February 18th, 2010 at 8:48 am
Rewarding the farmers and workers from poverty stricken countries by supporting their efforts and production in a fair way where they will be given a chance to make a living rather than the large often foreign combines is a worthy endeavor. It is your efforts that may make a change in those individuals lives
February 18th, 2010 at 9:00 am
I believe in Free-Trade; because as a responsible consumer I’m doing my part to ensure farmers are being compensated fairly for their labors.
February 18th, 2010 at 9:05 am
Alaffia’s story made me cheer for the triumph of the human spirit! Bravo for Whole Foods engagement, philosophy, and commitment. I wish more of the world trade was made of this type of “industry” and hope that this story and the Whole Trade endeavor will become contagious!
February 18th, 2010 at 9:14 am
It makes me happy when happy products come from happy people, who have been honored for their work. It makes me happy when the ground and the earth are given a chance to be renewed.
Fair trade is just plain fair. Thank you
February 18th, 2010 at 9:31 am
I think the best thing about buying fair trade items, is that you know you aren’t contributing to the continuation of grinding poverty, but paying a fair living wage to someone who has produced something of value to you. The producer is making the profit, not a huge multi-national corporation that has not contributed to the production, except possibly transportation.
February 18th, 2010 at 9:33 am
Whole Trade is a win win situation….good safe products for us that are good for the environment that protects workers giving them better wages and working conditions.
February 18th, 2010 at 9:34 am
Shea butter is awesome!
February 18th, 2010 at 9:43 am
Thanks to Whole Foods for creating a store that has fair trade! I feel much better spending my money on products that I know will help others – it makes feel that I am being a global consumer. Keep up the good work
February 18th, 2010 at 9:46 am
Whole Foods makes me feel like I have the family I never had. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to support the hard workers of integritous Whole Trade products. Shea is just a kiss away; by the way.
February 18th, 2010 at 9:52 am
The whole trade guarentee is genius! It is even more important today to help the environment and its people to get back to basics and keep pesticides and toxins from our children and soils. Treating both the environment and people with the respect we deserve is the goal of “Whole Trade.” Congratulations to Whole Foods for helping the world be a better place to live!
February 18th, 2010 at 9:52 am
Environmently speaking, it meets all criteria towards staying green with keeping up high standards if not exceding! Not to mention the comitment with all envolved I believe to be superior!
February 18th, 2010 at 9:56 am
I love to go Whole Foods Market because it is close to my work. Lucky me!..Also I could find food from all oevr world. It is wonderful to find bulgur, cous cous, or barley in teh bulk even there. I say that is real Whole trade with all world product. I love the real green tea, and ofcourse i love barley plus cous cous. Even you could find delicious imported cheese, yummm!.. What about anise seeds one place that you could find it in town…
February 18th, 2010 at 10:18 am
It is my way of reaching out to connect with others in the world who may not have the advantages I have. If in some small way, by simply purchasing a product I can be of help then it is a good thing. This connection between peoples of the world must start with each of us caring.
February 18th, 2010 at 10:23 am
I am commited to buying fair trade products and Whole foods makes it easy to turn that vision a reality. Be it tea, chocolate, coffee, bananas or my favorite Alafia Shea conditioner. I love knowing I can go into any Whole Foods location and purchase prodcuts that align with my values!
Keep up the good work!
February 18th, 2010 at 10:35 am
Fair is fair. Buying fair trade products is a no-brainer.
February 18th, 2010 at 10:36 am
What is life without Chocolate? My favorite Whole Trade product is the Everyday Value Organic Swiss Dark Chocolate Bar with Mint Crisps. My husband loves Dark chocolate and mint together. I am so proud to purchase products that are special to my family as well as families across the world. Thank you for your commitment to health, the environment, and providing better wages. It’s not often that I feel good about buying chocolate, but this Whole Trade product makes me feel great!
February 18th, 2010 at 10:37 am
It is so nice to know that by purchasing fair trade/whole trade items, we helping out people!
I especially like the whole trade/fair trade coffee! Yumm!
February 18th, 2010 at 10:53 am
It is great to know what you can buy that is actually helping those who need it and not benefiting those who already have too much
Please keep letting us know about these products
February 18th, 2010 at 10:55 am
I feel that supporting Fair Trade should be an important goal for all global citizens. We should all ask our favorite markets to sell more fair trade items. This enables third world countries to ensure that their goods are sold at a fair price and the employees receive a fair wage.
February 18th, 2010 at 11:15 am
I believe if we can help underdeveloped countries become self sustaining, it will help us all, it will also help the environment since the products are still made the old fashioned way, not industrialized. I am all for doing things the natural way and try to do my my part to go green. I also love shea products, my skin is very dry and this is one of the best products for dry skin with out petroleum products. I think that fair trade is the best thing to help these underdeveloped countries and I support fair trade because I know the people are getting more to help their families.

I love the fact that what I choose to buy helps a small business somewhere in the world. Helping woman to be independent is important but so is helping men. It gives them dignity and a fair price for what they produce.

I am from Tanzania & back home we always ate organic stuff since it is not that industrialized / commercialized yet.
So when I buy from Whole Foods, I get a taste of back home without spending the money for airfare to actually go back home!

Responsibility, awareness, respect, and commitment…those are words that come to mind when thinking of whole trade. Many times I struggle with how to make the most of my time, talents, and opportunities. Supporting whole trade is global love that everyone can take part in no matter what your personal circumstances are. Spread love and it comes back to you.

I love Alaffia soap! I received it for Christmas this year and I am proud to say that I love to buy fair trade because I know I am doing something to help another person make a fair wage and my money is not being sunk into another corporate entity

I love the organic kale as I know it’s high in calcium. I make a shake almost every morning with it, spring water, Tahini butter and some organic fruit (from whole foods) to strengthen my bones as I have osteopenia.
February 18th, 2010 at 3:09 pm
I have heard about Whole trade but was never fully informed on what it was. Now that I’ve read this article, I’ll be sure to purchase whole trade products!
February 18th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
Buying whole trade products helps me feel more connected to all humanity. This world isn’t such a big place and we all have a responsibility to it in each and every way.
February 18th, 2010 at 4:03 pm

I look to Whole Foods for their commitment to support the Whole Trade program. This commitment supports families, working farmers and small businesses world wide. When I shop, I look for my favorite chocolate bar and of course, a little spring color this winter…roses! I,also, look for the Whole Trade Bath & Body products that fell good and safe on my family’s skin. Santa Fe, NM is my favorite store.

I found it interesting to read the stories of the Whole Trade vendors, learning more about the products I’ve purchased and how they started and continue to prosper. I’m happy that Whole Foods gives us an opportunity to obtain these items. Thank you!

My favorite Whole Trade product is the EDS moisturizing conditioner. It makes my hair look so lustrous and soft and is made for individuals who care about the environment and by individuals who care about other individuals and make terrific products.

I feel like I’m getting a piece of that country, made with love by locals. I can also feel good that working conditions have a higher standard.
February 18th, 2010 at 10:43 pm
I “feel good” when purchasing products that I know helps others earn an honest living and uses their local resources. Especially products with ingredients that I like to use and that I can identify. My rule of thumb, purchase products with 6-8 ingredients that I can read and identify… thus it is a “WHOLE FOOD”…
February 19th, 2010 at 10:10 am
Highest quality food to be found – for the entire family

I am happy that Whole Trade products help people in developing countries.
February 19th, 2010 at 11:27 am
I am a avid user of Shea. I have used it for years and find it something I don’t want to live without. I understand that the US is trying to stop the imports of products, but…many that we import like shea is far superior to that here. I also feel that whole trade helps developing countries feel the importance of growing a product that helps them to be self sustaining. Rather than giving money to a developing country, isn’t it more productive to buy what they grow, as opposed to charity. I would assume they would have pride to know they have succeeded in a successful business venture than to just take charity.

When you put stuff in your body and you know it where it came from and that no one was abused in the production of it. It just feels right and we should all do right in order to feel right!
February 19th, 2010 at 2:18 pm
I purchase fair trade because it is important to purchase products made by workers who not only receive fair pay for their labor, but also use environmentally sustainable and community friendly agricultural methods.
February 19th, 2010 at 2:45 pm
When you purchase these products everyone benefits. It’s a good feeling!
February 19th, 2010 at 4:33 pm
We all should always strive to help each other and share. With fair trade, I feel like I am making a difference and giving part of myself.
February 19th, 2010 at 5:56 pm
I have made increasing efforts over the last ten or so years to purchase more fair trade and and organic products. I feel better about spending my dollars on products that are produced responsibly.
February 19th, 2010 at 8:24 pm
I am begining to realize that if all nations and people can find some ethical and sustainable way to be successful and support themselves, that our world can be a much better place. It is inspiring to see a small collective of people (women! – Alaffia) create a product and have it in our local Whole foods Market. I would rather support them directly and others world wide by using MY dollars, buying their products, than having to send governmental aid that will decreased by the many hands that process it.
February 20th, 2010 at 6:29 am
Although I use many of the products, the one I purchase most often is the Dark Chocolate bars. Not only is dark chocolate healty because of the antioxidents it is really good. Whole Foods offers a range of flavors for variety. If you like dark chocolate, try these bars. You not only are helping yourself but also helping the people in others in developing countries.

I just like the whole idea of fair trade, which doesn’t SEEM like it should be a radical idea, but that’s what it has become. So right on, WF, for helping keep the idea alive.
February 20th, 2010 at 8:23 am
I really like the Everyday Shea products (the body lotion in particular). And it feels great to be able to support fair trade.
February 20th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
Hello,
Before before Fair Trade marketing became popular, I was buying the products. Originally I am from Missouri, which seemed to be ahead of our time in practicing fair trade. There were a number of local shops which offered fair trade items to complement their merchandise. My church group was a reseller for fair trade items, especially made by women. I have also made many purchases at a fair trade shop in St. Louis managed by Quakers.
I enjoy seeing the unique items offered, and am thankful I can help a family to survive, even though my purchases are so meager.
Thanks,
Barb

I was raised with my father being a share cropper. Lots of people are embarrassed by this and would not even tell their story, but I am proud. My father and mother worked hard everyday. I did not have a lot growing up, but I learned important values. I am white, am 53, have been healthy all my life, except dental issues. I think this is because we did not have money to buy the shampoos, the dental items, etc. But, my main point is that we grew our own food, we had hogs, chickens, etc. That is how we ate. As I got older, I started eating pre-packaged foods, etc. At 53, my age now, I have been diagnosed with fibromalgia. I have gone back to the basics, eating black beans, bulgar, whole wheat, etc., and am actually losing weight without even exercising. I trust it helps my fibromalgia, but it is very painful. Other people look at me and say things like, “How can you eat this way?” It is very easy for me because I can go back and be grateful for the way I was raised. Was it easy to be raised like a child like this with everyone else having money and clothes, etc., that I did not have? No. But it sure taught me values and healthy eating! And, because of my hard work, I now have a Master’s Degree and have 17 years of civilian federal employment. Once again, values, honesty, faith, and God! If my parents were alive today, I would truly thank them!!!
Thanks for this opportunity. Louise 803-457-5679

UNLIKE IN DECADES PAST WHERE VERY LITTLE IF ANY PROFIT WAS EVER REINVESTED IN THE COMMUNITIES WHERE THE LABORERS LIVED; MOST OF THE PROFITS WILL GO BACK TO THOSE AND THEIR COMMUNITIES THAT LABORED TO BRING WONDERFUL PRODUCTS TO US IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD.

I am really impressed with Shea butter body lotion for my children. one employee at Whole foods talked highly about the lotion stating that is great for rash/dry skin and that works great for diaper rash for babies. so I decided to give it a try even if my kids are not babies they are grown ups 7and 10 yrs old. it really helps their skin it is smooth and very soft like a baby. I am really delight with Shea produts and hopefully I can win this basket for my children.

Everyday shea body butter. so rich and moisturizing
February 22nd, 2010 at 10:35 am
I like the products because they are all natural which would be good for your body. Plus, I have a peace of mind knowing that the people who make the products are being treat right and also they money that I use to purchase the products, some will go to them to help them cop with poverty. So , if you ask me it is a win win situation!!

Knowing where the products I use (and the food I eat) come from is really important to me. I’d like to know who makes them and where they are. Local is better and preferable. But for some things, that’s impossible. So, for products that come from afar, I want to know that the producers, growers, and all the other people involved in the process are treated fairly, that there aren’t toxic substances involved, and that the production is sustainable. If Whole Trade Products live up to these simple, basic requirements, then I’ll be glad to purchase them.
February 22nd, 2010 at 12:14 pm
The world gets smaller and your neighbors from afar get closer. Helping people who are working hard to provide us natural products is the only logical step for all of us. Thank you WF for your push to provide fair and healthy work conditions for the true workers of the world.
February 22nd, 2010 at 1:27 pm
I buy, because of quality of your products, the wonderful presentation & store events at Briarcliff Atlanta store, where everyone is just sooo nice
February 22nd, 2010 at 2:41 pm
i believe in buying whole trade products for a few reasons. it ensures that the workers that labor for hours and hours on end are treated like humans and not like chattle. second, it gives me a sense of pride to know that, although i spend more money, that money is going to the greater good of humanity. it’s not just me buying food for myself, but that money i spent buying coffee or my favorite produce, but allows others to provide for their families in less profitable nations. lastly, the quality of the products found in whole foods stores far surpasses the other stores and i wouldn’t, nor do i, shop anywhere else!
February 22nd, 2010 at 7:12 pm
Buying whole trade products is a triple play. By buying these wonderful products, we help families who truly benefit from their work while having a positive impact on the environment!

I love the Bananas and Coffee!!
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:50 am
It is very important to have a fair trade policy with less fortunate countries, as the U.S. Having a job, and income promotes self esteem, of the individual and also necessary to make a living and having the money to live.
February 23rd, 2010 at 12:27 pm
My favorite thing about whole trade products is that I do not have to worry that when I want to buy something, I am not contributing to bad working conditions and underpaid workers. Keep up the good work!
