It frustrates me that the FDA does not regulate body care care products! No, they are not considered food, but the ingredients are being absorbed and ingested into our bodies! Thank you Whole Foods for researching products before putting them on your shelves!

This is just another reason why I love Whole Foods and shop there each week. I am so excited that they have taken initiative to lead the industry in protecting consumers from toxic body care. Thank you, Whole Foods!

The Whole Foods employees are so helpful when I have questions like this! I’m glad that one of the 4 factors is that the product has to work. I feel like I’ve seen “natural” products and it boasts a lot about how natural it is, but there isn’t much on how well it works.

I’m thirlled that I can get products that are non-toxic and safe for my entire family. This is just another reason to shop at Whole Foods.

Premium Body Care Standards – this is awesome news. I’ve been a Whole Foods shopper for years, you’ve become my trusty go-to source for both personal care products and groceries. Thanks for all you do:)

When companies stop marketing “natural” being the same thing as “organic” I will be a happy camper.
Thank you Whole Foods for NOT being one of these companies.

I love how Whole Foods doesn’t do the whole deceptive advertisin thing, what you see is why you get (as far as natural vs organic) and that is awesome!

the video makes a very good point – FDA does not have any standards on what qualifies as / is defined as natural nor regulates natural body care products. It would be very beneficial and helpful to consumers if there was a standard so we know what is safe for our body and for the environment. Kudos to Whole Foods for their 2 year research to develop this premium body care line.

this is helpful to know since we normally don’t think about how much products we use affect our whole body. thanks for the info!

Crazy to think of all of the different products we use daily and how damaging they can be.

Do you have the same sort of standards for facial cosmetics? Because I notice that many of the ingredients that you list as “unacceptable” for premium body care are found in the cosmetics sold in your stores. Why the difference, and is there an unacceptable list for the face? I would love to see the list.

@Terresa: Our Premium Body Care standards apply for all products sold in our Whole Body department. If you’d like to know more about this, you can listen to this podcast….there’s great information in there! http://blog.wholefoodsmarket.com/2011/05/body-care-cosmetics-women/

Thank you, @Michael, but I am still confused. I have a Mineral Fusion mascara in front of me that contains Synthetic Wax as it’s fifth ingredient, but Synthetic Wax is “not acceptable” on the Premium Body Care Quality Standards. Before buying anything else, I looked at a lot of the ingredients in this line, and almost every product I looked at had ingredients that were deemed “not acceptable.” So are facial cosmetics not in the Whole Body department?
