It’s essential to protect our skin from the sun, both before and after exposure:
- If you choose to spend a lot of time in the sun, you should have a sunscreen that is safe and effective. Keep in mind that there is no such thing as a “sun block” that will protect you against 100% of the UV rays.
Your best protection from the sun is to moderate your sun exposure and to wear protective clothing.- If you do need a sunscreen, you should look for a mineral zinc oxide sunscreen that has a base of natural and organic ingredients such as shea butter or jojoba oil.
- After sun exposure, a good aloe vera gel or a soothing shea butter based balm will do wonders for sun-parched skin.
A first aid kit to take care of cuts, burns and scrapes during outdoor activities should include:
- Natural antiseptic or wound cleaning solution
- Plenty of band aids and sterile gauze pads
- Herbal booboo balm or homeopathic first aid ointment
- Homeopathic burn care or aloe vera gel
- Poison ivy soap and a natural anti-itch cream
According to Rebecca Hamilton, there are many benefits of the Premium Body Care and Organic Body Care standards developed by Whole Foods Market:
- The standards are fantastic for product innovation and as more companies are forced to improve the quality of their ingredients, the economic availability of complex organic ingredients will increase.
- The Premium Body Care standards create a much-needed guideline for “natural” that previously didn’t exist.
- The Organic standards regulate the term “organic” in association with personal care products, and now Whole Foods Market customers can shop with confidence knowing that all organic personal care products comply with one of two reputable certifiers, the USDA and NSF.
The skin is the largest organ in the body:
- Use the same quality of natural and organic products on your skin as the ones that you would choose to eat.
- In addition to protecting yourself from too much sun, always look for natural and organic insect repellents.

When the summer comes we all want to look perfect. Some of us are trying natural solutions, but most of us want fast results and this kind of results can be obtained only with the help of cosmetic treatments.
Time will judge which solution is better.

I have used a high quality (food grade) Coconut Oil for the last several years and have had beautiful skin since. Coconut Oil is a natural sun screen and it, works great.
No need for anything else!

I have the same problem as Chris from the UK, except I live in Florida, and I am allergic to coconuts. I want to get some sun but not burn, I have yet to find the balance.

I found a great sun protection product at Whole Foods Market in Arizona (I live in Florida.) It’s called Hair Shadz by Monimay and protects your scalp and your hair. I don’t always wear a hat and this gives spf15 coverage. I bought Medium Brown to also cover my roots! But for my kids I used the clear shade which they call Sun Shadz. I respect Whole Foods for bringing these kinds of products to us customers. They make us healthier and are a good value.

In choosing a sunscreen, I would add to find one that protects both against UVA and UVB rays. Currently there is only regulations for UVB rays, so make sure to select something that either says “broad spectrum” or mentions complete protection against UVA I,II and UVB rays.

I think this is good information. Because there are a lot of people out there that do not pay a lot of attention to their skin, or think anything about skin care at all. I just read where skin bleaching, and people attempting to lighten their skin color is increasing all over the world, including places like China, Japan, and India. In Jamaica it has become such a problem that the government started an educational campaign that basically says if you are going to do it then learn how to lighten skin naturally instead of using potentially dangerous skin bleaching chemicals. I know anything to do with skin color is going to be a highly sensitive issue but I think these people are doing it for all the wrong reasons.

Eating the right food during summertime is important for your skin. You need to boost your intake of antioxidants to protect the tissues. This will slow down the aging process. Berries in my opinion are the great source of antioxidants.

I definitely agree with this. Especially when they get caught off guard by cameras from TMZ or something like that. What is really getting to me now is this story I just read about more and more black celebrities who are rumored to be doing skin bleaching, or trying to Lighten Skin Naturally
