Read on for a chance to win a 14-CD set from Putumayo’s Kids Playground series along with Kids World Party. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music.
Kids World Party, a global medley of fun tunes from Trinidad to South Africa, launches the new Kids Party music series for Putumayo. Like the acclaimed Playground and Dreamland collections, Kids Party is sure to please adults too!
With the release of World Playground in 1999, Putumayo Kids established its children’s music collections as passports to learning about the world’s cultures. Kids World Party marks a return to these global roots with 12 fun, danceable songs accompanied by a multilingual (English, Spanish, French, German), child-friendly booklet that explores how children worldwide celebrate special occasions. The CD comes enclosed in a new eco-friendly package without a plastic tray.
Kids World Party also marks the start of a very special relationship with Amnesty International, in commemoration of the Noble Peace Prize-winning organization’s 50th anniversary, and continues a long Putumayo tradition of tying music and humanitarian work together in a seamless fashion. Fifty cents from the sale of each Kids World Party CD will go to Amnesty in support of their work to promote and protect human rights worldwide.
A sampling of the artists featured on Kids World Party include famed Indian pop and Bollywood singer Lucky Ali, who contributes “Kitni Haseen Zindagi,” a song that celebrates life. South Africa’s Sharon Katz and The Peace Train, whom Nelson Mandela appointed as a Cultural Ambassador of the nation, has thrilled international audiences with the beats and harmonies of their music, and delights listeners with “Sanalwami.”
The infectious “Afro-Cuban Funk” of Cuban-American band PALO! is heard on their song “Quimbombó” — the Spanish word for okra, a type of vegetable used to make stews in Louisiana, Cuba and Africa. Watch and hear a sample in this music video.
Also featured on Kids World Party is bilingual (English-French) singer Will Stroet, an award-winning Canadian musician whose song “Le boogie à vélo” tells children that you can boogie even while riding a bike safely. U.S. musicians Tom Freund and Friends performs the participatory song “Freezedance” and fellow American Eric Bibb rounds out the collection with Jackie Wilson’s classic soul tune “Higher and Higher.”
We think this CD is going to be the hit of your next kids’ party. In that light, what’s the best kids’ party you ever created or attended? Leave a comment below by July 26th for a chance to win a 14-CD collection from Putumayo Kids Playground series plus the newly released Kids World Party. That’s a lot of music! One comment will be selected randomly to win. Good luck!

Our best kids party has to be when our 7-year old suggested to host a teddy bear breakfast tea party, donating all the gifts to children in the hospital. She even shared the party with a classmate who had the same birthday as hers (double the gift donations). All the guests dressed in PJs and brought a teddy bear friend who participated in the events. There were various stations including a teddy bear hospital, a picnic, and a tea party. While the guest had breakfast the teddy bears hid for a game of hide-and-seek. We had a puppet show, put on by siblings, and teddy bear crafts before dessert. It as a wonderful morning event.

Our son, age 7 has high-functioning autism. Music both lifts his spirits and soothes him. He appreciates rythym, enjoys reading lyrics, and doing silly dances of course!
He just memorized the world map (every country on every continent!), so it follows that we could host an “AROUND the WORLD” race party. play Putomayo’s new World Party CD, use little mini flags and theme decorations from various countries (it’d be like a kids UN), and offer snacks from each country on the CD at each station. Throw in a folk dance and save the Freezedance and Higher and Higher as the grand prize winnign finale! Prizes could include the CD, a world map puzzle or kids atlas, and treats from Whole Foods, of course!
This would be a great gift! Music has the power to transform.

Best party ever, the kids took part in making everything, the pinata, cake, decorating, food choices and games. It was theirs to have and theirs to decide what they would do. Of course there were there were limits set.

My son loved the children’s book Goodnight Moon. For his first birthday we had a simple party at home on that theme, complete with story reading, red balloons, a “cow jumping over the moon” cake, and stuffed mice hidden throughout the house for the children to find. It was such a sweet little party.

Our 4th grade team had a Caribbean themed day and each classroom had a different fine arts activity. My room was Dance Island and the kids danced to songs such as the macarena and the limbo. The kids then had to create their own dance to a song from the Putumayo’s Kids Caribbean Playground. Although we didn’t call it a party, it was a PARTY!

A family friend used to put on the best Easter egg hunts. He had a large piece of land in the country, so there were lots of creative hiding places for eggs.

The best party I have hosted was for my daughter’s 4th birthday when I hired a local actor to come in costume (without anyone knowing it was going to happen). It was a Winnie the Pooh party and I had arranged for the special guest to hand out the party favors; little pouches filled with a toy and a book. We did theme related activities and the dessert was not a birthday cake but honey cakes with strawberries on top – just what every good bear would love! We played “Pin the tail on Eeyore” and then went outside to blow bubbles. Suddenly the children heard from around the corner…”teedely pum, teedely pum!”. They were all really enthralled with Pooh and each of them got to sit on Pooh’s lap for a photo – yet another treat for them. I was so glad I had asked the theater about hiring out the Wiinnie the Pooh from the production we saw – which was a special “pre birthday” treat for my daughter.

The best kids parties were when my mom took us to a local park with a bag of sand toys, balls, and a frisbee and a big jug of pink lemonaid and a birthday cake or cupcakes. Virtually no set up or clean up. No fancy clothes and it was ok to get dirty.

This past winter, I created an elaborate indoor carnival for my son’s 4th birthday. I recruited volunteers to help man games, popcorn cart, and a prize booth where the kids could exchange their tickets for goodies. It went off without a hitch thanks to so many who were willing to help!

My friend had the Bug Guy come to entertain the kids. This guy had bugs from a Praying Mantis to a huge moth, centipedes and spiders. He shared information about them, held them to show the kids, and let the kids hold some of them if they wanted. The kids LOVED it and were so interested and attentive, until the cake came. ha!

My daughter had a craft party for her birthday and she said it was “the best ever”. They had fun finger foods for lunch and then did some “girly” crafts (keychain, hair barrette and sparkly ornament). We had the Curious George soundtrack playing in the background which added to the festive mood. We don’t yet own any Putumayo cds but would love to. My daughter’s teacher plays them for the kids in her class.

We had a princess party at the Center for Puppetry Arts. Before we went to watch a puppet show called “Cinderella della Circus”, we put on tiaras and treated my three year old niece to a princess birthday. I gave her a Putumayo cd, which my sister says the entire family loves.

We love the Putumayo cds! The best kids party we have created is one birthday bash for all 3 of our kids with July bdays outside at our local swimming spot (Wright’s Pond). Sandy beach, 2 playgrounds, bathrooms, changing rooms, outside shower, picnic tables etc. No cleaning of my house required! Add some salads, veg and dip, plus some sandwiches and the requisite bday cake and call it done!

Our best kids party was my son’s 4th. He rode out on a wagon for everyone to sing happy birthday. He had the biggest smile on his face.

my 6 year old neice and her 5 and 3 year old brothers would love to hear this CD. They all have a knact for dancing and singing. On Allie’s last birthday she had a bounce house in the yard for her friends to play in. When they came inside, they had a dance party! We all had so much so fun.

I enjoy using the KIDS WORLD PARTY Cds when I teach poetry and art to young children. The music plays in the background as they draw self-portraits or images of their favorite things. The CDs are especially inspirational at the year-end gala for parents and students. It adds so much joy to the event, as children dance along to the beautiful beats. What an amazing collection this would be to own!

My friend’s son just turned five in December. We invited his entire class for an indoor jungle gym party. The kids absolutely loved it! I made Tie-Dye cupcakes and Monster Goody Bags for them to take home. We used neon as a theme so the monsters were all colours of neon paper fringe glued to paper bags with google eyes
Each bag had the child’s name on it for a personal touch.

Putumayo is my absolute favorite collection of songs from around the world! I have been buying these albums since 1999 and feel that they have introduced me to so many amazing artists!! I have given a few of the Children’s albums to my parents & in-laws to use in their classrooms so that they can expose their children to music from around the world at a young age…Lots of love to you all Putumayo! Thanks for what you do!
