CONGRATULATION TO OUR WINNER PATRICIA FROM ANN ARBOR, MI. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR GREAT COMMENTS!
We love our producers, suppliers and vendors and we think most of them have some pretty interesting stories behind their products too. We’ll be sharing some of our favorites here in an ongoing series. Read on for a chance to win a $50 gift card.
What does it take to run a creamery? If you’re Jennifer Bice, it takes lots of care, concern and meticulous attention to detail. The organic creamery behind Eros Organic Greek Yogurt, is operated 100% on solar power from two acres of solar panels. Running on these solar panels is “equal to taking 76 cars off the road, planting 110 trees or powering over 50 homes, “ Bice says. “Creameries use tremendous amounts of energy so we’re constantly looking at new ways that we can deliver the product in a more sustainable fashion.” In addition to solar energy, the creamery uses motion-sensored lights that only come on when needed in order to minimize lighting usage, has electric car charging stations (also operated by solar power) and a computer-operated water system that measures the exact amount of water needed to clean their operational equipment.
The same consciousness applies not only to the creamery, but also to their relationship with Diamond W Dairy, their award-winning dairy producer. Using one dairy to provide all of the milk for Eros yogurt means that they can save in transportation resources as well as get fresh, high-quality milk to the creamery faster. “We really wanted the best and most high quality milk, so we’ve formed a partnership with the Diamond W Dairy because they have one of the best dairies in Sonoma County,” says Bice. Brothers Ron and Ken Wilson run the dairy, which provides organic milk from 600 cows to supply all of the milk that goes into Eros Yogurt.
The Wilson brothers are the third generation of their family to run their farm and they’re known for the care with which they treat their cows. “We want to make sure the animals are taken care of; I think it just tastes better in the end product.” says Bice. “Eros Organic Greek Yogurt is exclusive to Whole Foods Market, is one of the few organic Greek yogurts, and on top of that, it’s delicious!” Eros Organic Greek Yogurt is available in plain, vanilla, honey, strawberry and blueberry and is found only in our stores.
What do you think about the efforts that Eros Organic Greek Yogurt makes to conserve resources in its creamery? Watch the slideshow above and leave a comment with your answer by September 27th. One comment will be chosen at random to win a $50 gift card to our stores.

The little baby calves are so cute and to think they get to grow up eating organically so that we can eat their yummy yogurt later in their lives is heartwarming.

If more companies incorporated sustainable processing techniques of all kinds, this country would use considerably less fossil fuels.

It’s so awesome to know that a great tasting, healthy food is the result of compassion for other beings and love for The World.

If only all food distributors would go the extra mile like Eros has done. Everyone in our world would be a lot healthier. Eros gives me hope for that happening someday.

I think this is a great initiative; there’s nothing better than hearing stories about family business that succeed. There are so many good things about this company to highlight:
• A company that worries about its employees and make every effort to achieve its goals and help others goals to be achieved is a successful company by default, because you’ll get all the best from people when you give all your best! A great work team is always a plus.
• The company actually cares about its source of income, which in this case is its cows, by providing the best possible resources.
• They care about the environment; not many companies can proudly say that they are powered 100% by an alternative energy source!
• Not only they operate under solar panels all the way, but the contribution to the conservation of the environment goes above and beyond (controlled lighting, controlled water supply!)…
• End result: ORGANIC products earn extra points in my book!
Is there anything else to say? I don’t think so! Watching this slideshow makes me want to be a part of this great project.
This is the “complete package”!!!!

ah! love the solar panels…thank you for setting a fantastic example for other dairy farms across the country to aspire too!

My son LOVES yogurt and it makes me happy to see good companies providing him with healthy food.

It just goes to show when there is a will there is truly a way. Our wastefulness comes from our addiction to convenience, but once you put the initial work in, then the system flows and sustains itself. I love to see companies doing this, and in turn I support them by purchasing their delicious products. Thank you Eros Yogurt!

September 26th, 2011 at 6:28 am
I’m impressed with the efforts that Eros Organic Greek Yogurt makes to conserve resources in its creamery… such as using solar power wherever possible. More companies need to follow suit.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:14 am
I think its awesome! I love that they have been in business since the 60s and their milk supplier since the 1920s. I also love that they use solar power exclusively. GREAT company from what this says!
September 26th, 2011 at 3:11 pm
Being a skeptic, due to so much abuse and mistreatment of animals and our environment, and as a result our food source, it was good to see what appears to be an innovative and wonderful way to produce yogurt. I would like to believe, however, that those calves that you show have a right to their mothers, and are not just torn away from them, as is done in factory farming.
September 26th, 2011 at 4:31 pm
Anyone who takes the time and effort to be kind to animals and our environment should be commended!
September 26th, 2011 at 4:46 pm
Wow, I love this company. I love the different approaches they make to conserve resources for a better planet.
September 26th, 2011 at 11:16 pm
I couldn’t agree with the past comments more. Any business that makes an effort to be sustainable is worth supporting!
September 27th, 2011 at 2:28 pm
Thanks Jennifer for the wonderful product and especially for the care of our natural resources, water, and energy. I wish all businesses could care and minimize their impact on the environment we are all living in.
September 27th, 2011 at 2:31 pm
It’s great to see a company like Eros that takes care of its employees, humans and animals alike. By Eros keeping one foot in the past with their farming practices they are able to move forward and find alternative power sources, thus reducing the carbon footprint for future generations. I applaud Eros and their initiatives. More companies should take note of their humane treatment of animals while maintaining carbon footprint reducing practices. This is definitely a company that I would support by purchasing their products. Way to go Eros!

Eros has amazing products. The taste and texture is so rich and tasty. So glad I found your products to enjoy as is and in baking and other dishes. My famly loves, loves your taste in everything, even my children who are picky eaters. thanks so much.

I hate to rain on everyone’s parade, but the yogurt is not Greek style at all. I’m speaking of the plain 2% as I don’t eat flavored yogurts ordinarily. The goopy texture is not Greek style, which is strained. And it has a strange flavor. I won’t be purchasing it again.
February 23rd, 2012 at 4:45 am
I have recently tried this Greek yogurt after hearing about it for a long time. It is soooo……deliscious and much prefer the flavor to regular yogurt. Plus the texture is not as runny, which I prefer. It is also a perfect substitute for sour cream and much healthier. Thanks for the effort to produce an excellent product.
