Sheryl Crow + Whole Foods Market + NRDC = A Better Bag

We have a really cool new bag coming out! You’ve probably seen our large grocery tote bags made from recycled plastic bottles for only 99 cents. Our customers have given us great feedback on them.

When it came time to design a new bag, we wanted to make it even better. We came up with several ideas and these two rose to the top:
1. generate public interest in reusable bags by getting an environmentally conscious celebrity to help design the bag and
2. highlight a strong environmental program on the bag that is helping to change our world.

Done and done. Sheryl Crow collaborated with us on the design of the bag. Didn’t it turn out great?

The Natural Resources Defense Council promotes a great program called Simple Steps. In addition to our monetary donation to the NRDC, each bag has the SimpleSteps.org website printed on it, which encourages customers to embrace simple steps in their everyday lives that reduce consumption and consider the environment.

Since it is gift-giving season, the bags are available in the large grocery tote size and also in a smaller, gift bag size for only 79 cents. Check ‘em out and let us know what you think.

When we sell through this run of bags, we’ll be designing the next version. What ideas do you have for taking these to the next level?

Drink your Aloe Vera!

Imagine slicing open a fresh leaf of aloe vera and extracting the beneficial properties from within—our new 365 Everyday Value® Aloe Vera Juices in both unflavored and tangy Pomegranate Cranberry flavor give you an easy way to take advantage of aloe’s benefits every day.

Our new 365 Everyday Value® Aloe Juice and Gel products are made from fresh, 100% Whole Leaf Certified Organic Aloe Vera grown in the rich and fertile Rio Grande Valley of Texas and along the Tropic of Cancer in the Mexican Desert. They contain the full range of naturally occurring aloe polysaccharides– an average of about 2,400 mg per liter. Aloe polysaccharides are thought to be aloe’s most important constituents. Whole leaf products are made by processing the entire leaf and filtering out the unwanted bitter constituents. This retains more of the 200+ components such as amino acids, vitamins and minerals. We never use distillates or add water. Our product is 99.7% pure aloe vera!

The key to a better product is in the way you treat your aloe leaves. The aloe plants and fields are tended with care. It takes two to three years for a plant to reach maturity, and careful harvesting to keep the plants productive for five to seven years’ time. The plants are replaced after seven years and new fields take more than a year to become ready for a new planting. Our fresh aloe leaves are harvested by hand. The folks who pick the leaves have many years of experience and know exactly which leaves will yield the good stuff that aloe gives! Our fresh aloe leaves are refrigerated within two hours of harvest and processed under optimum conditions to retain aloe’s best qualities.

There are many claims about aloe vera and a few are even substantiated by science, how about that? Digestive and immune support as well as increased nutrient absorption are a few of the important ways aloe vera can support health.

To Juice or Gel, you ask?

Aloe vera gel is actually made from the aloe vera juice by adding a food grade thickening agent called carrageenan, which is a naturally occurring sea kelp/Irish moss. They are almost equally effective because the 365 Everyday Value® Aloe juice products contain 99.7% aloe vera, while the gel products contain 99.5% aloe vera. Juice products are typically made for dietary supplement purposes, while gel products are more commonly used for topical application, though they can be orally ingested and may be soothing to your throat, stomach, and digestive tract.

Drink two to eight ounces per day as a refreshing beverage! Pour over ice, mix with your favorite juice or try our tasty Pomegranate Cranberry flavor. To your health!

New Food for Fido

If you haven’t strolled down the pet food aisle lately, you may not know that we’ve expanded our private label line of pet foods. We continue to offer our 365 Everyday Value™ pet foods for a quality human-grade pet food at a value price and have added 365 Everyday Value™ Holistic pet foods for well-rounded nutrition without the use of by-products.

Think all pet foods are the same? Think again. Pet food is divided into two separate categories: human and non-human grade. All of our 365 Everyday Value™ pet food products are human grade. Human grade pet foods are processed according to the same manufacturing standards as human foods and they contain ingredients that are free from contamination, disease or adulteration. This means that the meat sources used in our products, including any by-products, are NOT from animals that have been rejected for human consumption. The ingredients are inspected with the same care as if they were to be sold as human food.

Our pet food brands offer choice and affordability: the original 365 Everyday Value pet food provides a safe, human grade product that meets pets’ nutritional needs at a great value. By using human grade by-products, we can provide a safe meat and protein source for your pets at an affordable price.

Our Holistic selections are made without the use of by-products. Every ingredient used in our Holistic pet food is carefully selected to provide nourishment to the whole pet. Whether it’s oatmeal (promoting a healthy digestive system) or Menhaden Fish Oil (an excellent source of Omega 3 fatty acid), each ingredient in the Holistic pet formula supports important system functions and dietary needs. Additionally, our 365 Everyday Value™ Holistic food is baked and not extruded. Baking is done at lower temperatures over a longer period of time, which maintains the integrity and quality of the ingredients.
