Blumetti's Gourmet Foods

Blumetti’s Gourmet Foods of Rockwall, Texas, was one of the first recipients of a loan through Whole Foods Market’s Local Producer Loan Program. They are also one of the program’s biggest success stories. Since receiving the loan, Blumetti’s pasta sauces have expanded to two additional regions. They are also providing the sauce for all store-made pizzas in the Southwest region! Jim Blumetti spoke with us about his company and its relationship with Whole Foods Market.

i just picked up your site on the WHOLE FOODS e mail i receive. we were friendly with a family named BLUMETTI from Jersey CIty New Jersey when i was a child. in fact they used to call a friend Jimmy Blu. he had a sister Jeanette who was married to a relative of mine. i can't remember who, but, my older brothers and sister would remember. Jimmy Blu owned a bar and restaurant in Atlantic Highlands New Jersey when i was a child. i just wondered if you could be related. Good Luck in your business although i have not researched it as yet. thanks for listening. Good Luck Whole Foods is a great company. Anita L. Mclean

At the end of November, I moved from Texas to North Carolina. The only downside is that I have not been able to find Blumetti's marinara sauce in the stores here. It is an outstandingly delicious sauce--one that replaces the sauce I used to make until I found Blumetti's. It is beyond compare and it is not worth it for me to take the time and trouble to make a sauce that can be rivaled in this product. I wish that Whole Foods would stock it in their stores in North Carolina.

Your emphasis is on local but if you are supplying your stores nationwide with local products that were made in Texas such as Blumetti's sauces then that to me does not make it local, you are still shipping products accross country. Also he professes the ingredients to be natural which is a very genetic description of anything. There are many things on this earth that grow naturally but that does not deem them safe to eat. Gourmet,or natural does not qualify for safe to eat. A case in point; poisonous mushrooms grow naturally! I would prefer a larger emphasis on you supporting local companies with a view to having them use or produce organic products over a preference for Gourmet or natural. I can buy Gourmet or natural products at Von's or Ralph's or Stater Bros which does'nt necessarily make them healthier or safer for consumption or the environment.

@Gloria: You are correct. Blumetti's sauce is made in Dallas, so it's considered a local item only for those living in that part of the country. However, we source local products from many different parts of the US. This blog post is simply highlighting one of them. Some of these locally produced products eventually receive national distribution but most of them remain small operations, and are only available in the areas in which they are made. Additionally, you can find a large variety of organic products at our stores.

Thanks for putting local products on your shelves! BLUMETTI's of Rockwall, Tx. is a fantastic example of LOCAL products. That sauce is Delciosso! It is a healthy situation to have specialty items that are NOT shipped all over the country...keep the local charm! = )
