Today's the big day! All of our U.S. stores are helping shoppers celebrate Labor Day by offering ground grass-fed beef at a sale price of just $3.99 per pound. Today, September 3rd only! This is the perfect way to try out grass-fed beef if you haven't yet; and if you have, a perfect opportunity to stock up! Grill up some unique burgers befitting flavorful grass-fed beef: Here's what I think are the most important aspects of grass-fed beef:
  • Grass-fed beef ranching is not only good for the animals, but involves managing natural resources and supporting local producers.
  • Grass-fed beef is a leaner choice and has a more favorable ratio of omega fatty acids.
  • Grass-fed beef is priced fairly for the producer and is worth every penny.
  • Grass-fed beef is a delicious alternative to grain-fed beef and cooks a little differently.
We've got more details on all of those aspects on our Grass-fed Beef page and you can read about our Grass-fed Rancher Partners and find out who supplies the grass-fed beef that you buy in your local Whole Foods Market. Very cool. Let's fire up the grill and cook some beef!

"Grass-fed beef is a leaner choice and has a more favorable ratio of omega fatty acids." I talked with your butcher today ... "do you guys get bulk and then cut and trim the fat" "Yes" ... "what do you do with the fat?" "Goes in the compost bucket". Folks: The reason grass fed is healthier for us is because of the natural omega 3/6 ratio. The highest amount of 3s are in THE FAT! High quality saturated fats are good for us - please do not throw it away - please sell it to those of us that would kill for it! http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2002/08/24/saturated-fat3.aspx http://tierneylab.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/21/good-news-on-saturated-fat/

I was searching this site for a place to recommend a place for a new store, (and still haven't found one that allows a comment aside from just a zip code). Kalispell Montana would be a great site. It meets all the criteria stated on what I think was the Real estate page. The thing Costco found out, was that we in Northwest Montana have to/are willing to drive more than 20 minutes to get to a store worth getting to. I live in Libby, which is 90 miles west northwest of Kalispell, to go to Costco. Ten or fifteen years ago, Costco built a store in Kalispell. It wasn't long that they figured out that the "advance team" or (whatever they called the ones who decided who what when and where the new stores go), made a huge mistake! The store they built was way too small. I don't know how many years ago now, Costco built a huge new store, and it is usually very busy. The main point of this is, The area from which a store of this type can draw from is much greater than normal. I drive a treacherous 2 lane road for 90 miles to get to Kalispell. Others drive from Canada, (as evidenced from license plates in the parking lots of Lowes, Costco, Home Depot, to name a few). Close to Kalispell, is Whitefish on the North, and Lakeside on the South, (Both of which are "HIGH RENT districts). When we locals talk about businesses we would like to see come to NW Montana, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and I will now be putting forth, WHOLE FOODS! I went to a WHOLE FOODS store at some point when I worked at John Day Dam, BY Portland Ore. I was very, very impressed, I just read an article on the web about you guys that jogged my memory. This is getting pretty "wordie", as most of what I type does, so I'll quit. Hopefully, not so long that someone of power will read it. I almost forgot about the grass fed beef part of this rant. I was raised on a cattle (Herford) ranch here in Montana. During hard times we had to eat our own product for economic reasons, During boom times we ate our grass fed beef, because it tasted sooooo much better. I don't know if the folks knew it was better for us or not, I did'nt. The supermarket beef (grain fed?) was by comparison, tasteless. I've heard it said that the styrofoam container has more flavor. (YUKKKK) If you (WHOLE FOODS) puts in a store in Kalispell, I'll drive the 90 miles for an hour and a half to be the first in line to buy some of your "grass fed" beef!!! Norman R. Clark

Last August, my husband and I went to a place called The Kushi Institute in the Bershire Mtns. The objective was to learn to eat a macrobiotic diet to help him slow the growth, if possible, of a brain tumor that there were not any more medical treatments available for. We left there with a lot to learn and the patient liking some of the ideas.....grass fed beef from Whole Foods a winner have some in the fridge, absolutely tastes better!!! Hopefully there will be another great sale on it as I missed the last one. Thank you for your Hingham, MA store it's a 20 min. Ride that's worth it!!!
